I live with my divorced dad in a cabin not far from a road leading to a town. Between me and that road is a forest. An seemingly endless forest. The forest was nothing safe. For all I knew, there was a pack of crack sniffing pedophiles. But my dad wasn't ever concerned. One day, I woke up. My dad was waiting for me in the kitchen with a packed lunch. He said goodbye as I walked out the front door. It was raining. I pulled up my hood and trudged through the mud. As I got to the middle of the trail leading to the road, I heard stick snap only a few feet into the woods. I quickly turned around, only to see an old man standing behind the trees. His skin was grayish and hung on his skeleton like a thin blanket. He was terribly wrinkled and looked sick. He wore nothing but a black vest over a grungy, green shirt and black pants. He was bald, with only a few gray hairs sticking out from his head. It seemed that at any moment, he would collapse. I stared at him, slightly frightened. He looked up from the ground. His eyes...where were his eyes?!?...I step back as his mouth opens wide, like a black trench. I hear sound that sounds similar to screaming and I feel weak. My heart pounds in my chest and...Nothing. Just black. Then, I hear a worried voice. ...dad. I open my eyes to see his face close to mine. His shaky hands holding my shoulders. "Oh thank god..." He hugs me. "I thought you were dead." I'm confused. My dad tells me about how he found me 2 hours after I left, laying in the soaked dirt. I start to remember the previous events. "Dad..." I looked at him straight in the eyes. "Don't look past the trees."
