Hiya everyone! Thank you for stopping by to read my novel, and thank you even more for staying to read this quick authors note. I have a couple of disclaimers that I want to put out there, if you'll be so kind as to read them <3

-Disclaimers-

This novel uses intentionally modern language. A mix of semi-modern slang and phrases have been used alongside more 'proper' English for an appropriate old-timey feel while still being easy to read and relatable for a modern audience. This was really important to me - I'm a huge historical fiction lover, but I also have ADHD and appreciate that for brains like mine, sometimes the complex, long-winded and old-fashioned language used in novels of this genre can be too overwhelming when you want to just sit and enjoy a good book. If the obviously 21st-century language in an 18th-century setting bothers you, then firstly, I'd beg you to give my book a chance (I'm certain you'll love it anyway!), but I appreciate it's not for everyone.

Although I have done my best to make things feel historical, this novel is in no way historically accurate. I've researched the absolute crap out of this time period, but I've included stereotypes as well as accurate details. This is a pirate novel at heart, and I want you to have a good time reading it - I don't want to bore your brains with a historical research paper every other paragraph. I may have chosen to tweak or plainly ignore any historical elements of this time period that I felt didn't have a place in my story. It's not exactly historical fantasy, but it's not accurate history, either. It's somewhere in between :)

My next disclaimer is that this book is my first draft and is constantly being tweaked. Considering I wrote the first half-dozen chapters up to 5 years ago, I've found that the writing quality steadily increases throughout the first 10 chapters... this is something to be fixed on my second draft! Looking back at the start of this book makes me cringe now - the later chapters are much more well-written, lol. Small things like grammatical errors may slip through my initial edit, but if you spot any huge issues, I'd really appreciate a comment letting me know. I'm super nervous and excited to be writing this novel, and I'm pouring my heart and soul into it. Sharing your first draft is very vulnerable, as I know that this book has a way to go before it's officially complete. Publishing my novel would be a dream come true, but I don't want to wait until then to share my story with you all, so you get my first draft as a special treat <33 :)

Lastly, all comments are welcome! Whether it's feedback, support, criticism, funny comments or simply a 'hello', I appreciate it all. Even the fact that you're reading my novel means the absolute world to me.

I'll stop yapping at you now and let you get on with reading my novel! I present... Days At Sea! I update as often as I can :D
