It's been a few weeks since Billie and I last spent quality time together. The evenings I keep replaying in my mind now seem like a distant memory. Billie has hardly been in touch, and while I've tried not to let it get to me, the uncertainty has been gnawing at me.

Tonight, my brother has a big concert, and I'm excited to support him. Billie will be there too, as she's now officially his girlfriend. The anticipation of seeing Billie again mixes with the nervousness and the jumble of emotions stirring within me.

When I arrive backstage, I see my brother warming up with his band. The room is buzzing with the electrifying energy of preparations, and I feel my heart beat faster. Billie is standing off to the side, looking fantastic in her casual yet stylish outfit. When our eyes meet, she smiles shyly and walks over to me.

"Hey," she says softly, her voice almost lost in the surrounding hustle. "How have you been?"

"I'm good," I reply, trying to hide my excitement. "And you?"

"It's been hectic," she admits. "But it's nice to see you again."

Before I can respond, my brother pulls her away to introduce her to the other band members. I watch her from a distance, seeing her laugh and get along with everyone. Part of me is relieved to see her so happy, while another part longs for the closeness and intimacy we shared.

The concert begins, and the crowd roars as my brother takes the stage. Billie and I stand together in the backstage area, and though we aren't touching, I feel the tension between us. As the band plays, I inch closer to her until our shoulders nearly touch.

She turns slightly to me, a faint smile on her lips. "I've missed you," she whispers, her voice barely audible over the music.

"I've missed you too," I reply, my heart pounding in my chest. "Why didn't you reach out?"

"It was complicated," she says, looking at the stage as if avoiding my eyes. "I didn't know how to handle it."

I place my hand on hers, and she gives it a gentle squeeze. "We'll find a way," I say with determination.

The night continues, filled with fleeting glances and subtle touches that remind us of past nights. As the concert winds down and my brother plays the final chords, I pull Billie aside.

"We need to talk," I say seriously. "We can't keep going like this without knowing what we are to each other."

Billie nods, her eyes filled with emotion. "I know. After the concert, okay?"

As the final notes fade and the crowd's applause erupts, I feel the tension in the air dissipate. My brother beams with joy, and I can't help but feel happy for him. Yet, the weight of the conversation ahead lingers.

Backstage is jubilant after the concert. The band and crew are celebrating, and my brother hugs Billie and me tightly. "Thank you both for being here," he says, beaming. "It means the world to me."

Billie smiles and kisses him on the cheek. "It was amazing. You were amazing."

He laughs and pulls us both into a hug. "You guys are the best." Then he's surrounded by fans and friends wanting to congratulate him, and Billie and I find ourselves alone in a quiet corner of the backstage area.

"So," I begin as the door closes behind us. "What do we do now?"

Billie takes my hand and looks at me seriously. "I know this is all complicated," she says. "But I want to be honest with you. What I feel for you is real, and I don't want to ignore it."

"Neither do I," I respond, feeling a weight lift off my shoulders. "But we need to find a way to handle this without hurting my brother."

Billie nods. "I know. But I believe if we're open and honest with each other, we can make it work."

We talk for a long time, and the words flow more easily than I expected. The closeness and familiarity return, and I feel our connection growing stronger.

As we finally leave the backstage area, we agree to proceed carefully and respectfully. We know it won't be easy, but we're ready to try.
