Chapter One

Next week is Jonathons birthday, he's turning 18. I still have no idea what to buy him since he never tells me what he likes to do or what he wants. It's weird. We've been together for 5 years, yet he won't tell me anything about his personal life. I tell him everything that happens to me.

I slip my backpack on, putting my phone in my pocket as I grab my car keys. I heard a noise in the kitchen, just figuring it was my little brother. But then I hear it again, louder. My little brother, Thomas, is only three. He shouldn't be able to make a noise that loud. I don't have time, I'll be late to school if I go and check the noise out. I grabbed my phone out of my pocket and texted my mom about the noise.

I head out the door and get in my car. I call my best friend, Jessica, as I start the car. I set my phone in the cup holder as she answers.

"Hey girl!" She answers the same every single time.

"Hey, I may be a few minutes late, I forgot to get gas on my way home yesterday." I tell her.

"That's fine, but be careful. There's a wreck over there. From what I saw, it was a pretty bad one. One of the cars had a couple in it. I'm pretty sure they were on their way here." She warns me.

"Thanks, I'll just wait until after school then." I say as I pull out of the driveway.

"There's a man in your house." I hear her say.

"What?"

"I said the homework is in my bag. I know you probably didn't get it done. You can just copy mine." She responds.

"Oh, uhm, thanks . . . !" I swear I did not hear that.

She hangs up the phone, so I'm left alone now. No one to talk to me.

I get onto the freeway, driving as safe as I can. But all of a sudden, I hear a man speak in my backseat. Like, no voice I've ever heard before. I look into the mirror and see an old guys face, making me so scared. I swerve the car, making it crash.

That's the last thing I remember before I woke up in the hospital. The first person I see is my mom, then Jessica. I thought Jonathon would be here, but I guess not.

"Where's Jonathon?" I ask, hoping for someone to answer.

"He's also in the hospital. He was in that wreck this morning by the gas station." My mom answered.

He was in the wreck at the gas station? But I swear Jessica said that there was a couple in the car.
