"Ms. Jones you're on in 5," One of the many stage members said ushering me out of my dressing room. He didn't even bother to ask me if I was ready.
"Give me a minute damn," I hissed at him getting out my chair. I brushed off one of the makeup artists and slipped out of my robe.
"Y'all not even letting me breathe."
I tossed the robe somewhere to the left of me and follow him out to area near the stage. I could hear the audience screaming my name. I loved my fans so much. Couldn't no one or anything ever make me hate them. I adored them so much.
I stood still letting them hook me up to the mic system and waited for my cue to enter the stage. I had only 3 minutes left, and the tension made me nervous. You'd think after years of performing I'd be used to it. I wasn't though. I don't think I'd ever be able to get used to the thousands of eyes staring at me while on stage. They'd watch my every move waiting for me to mess up.
"Charmaine?" Someone shouted from behind me.
I turned around and saw my manager approaching me with a worried look on her face.
"What's the matter," I said untangling the wire to my microphone.Sandra was my manager for the past 3 years. I don't think she was really anyone before I hit her up asking for her to coach me. She was just some random white lady teaching Zumba to celebrities. Now she was helping me climb to A list status.
"Oh, nothing its fine," she said pulling a loose string from my vest. "You'll do amazing out there." She taped my nose and turned out her heel and padded off to wherever she goes to watch me from upstage.
I shook my hands and held my hands on my hips. The stage manager motioned for me to begin walking on stage. I took a deep breath and slowly made my way out. The screams erupted and lights shined down on me. I watched them scream and smile, they all look excited. It's a shame I was late getting to venue. Oh well.
"I said Florida!" I shouted into my mic.
"Yeah! Yeah!" They screamed.
"I said Florida!" I screamed back.
"Let's get it!"The lights dimmed into a dark red color and that was my cue to get to upstage position.
I got into my stance 1 position ready and waiting for the music to start. Not long afterwards the audio to my newest single 'Kiss it better' started playing I slowly got up and in a sensual manner with my hands on my thigh.
"Been waiting on that sunshine boy, I think I need that back.
No one else gonna get it like that.
So I argue, you yell-But you take me back
Who cares when it feels like crack?"I slowly strutted up stage and paced the stage. My eyes scanned the audience giving the impression I was gazing into their eyes. That always seemed to rile them up even more. Towards the back of the audience, I noticed a few a few random bystanders looking up at the ceiling. They were probably high, but it seemed wary. One of them had an arm and face full of tattoos. Dope-heads? At my concert? I glanced over at the curtains and didn't see anyone too worried. Kind of unusual.
"Boy you know that you always do it right.
Man, fuck your pride
Just take it on back, boy take it on back boy!
Take it back all night!"I took a nice deep breath and belted out the chorus.
"Just take it on back, take it on back
Mmm, do what you gotta do, keep me up all night
Hurting vibe, man, and it hurts inside when I look you in your eye""What are you willing to do?"
It was incredible. They were loving it and I felt alive on stage. All eyes were on me, and my anxiety had left the room. This was where I belonged and I could never give the feeling of being on stage away.
I continued with the performance. I sung a few songs off my new album and threw in a few throwbacks. Everyone was happy and singing along. I loved it.
The show was coming to an end, so I decided to sit down and talk with my fans.
"So, I know y'all been waiting for the album," I said and waited for them to responded.
Someone near the front of the audience shouted out "Hell yeah!" and we all laughed.
"Me too girl," I wiped my forehead and rested it on my hip.
"My album 'Mauve' will officially be out at midnight!"
I smiled and blew the audience a kiss and bowed to the audience. There was nothing but screaming after I announced the album. I could just see my twitter feed right now. They deserved the album though; it's been almost five years since I last dropped something other than singles. I worked hard on it, and it was a more personal album. It was something new and I hoped they'd like it.Sandra quickly approached me as I exited off the stage.
"You did amazing Charmaine!" She said hugging me. That was another thing about Sandra, she was extremely touchy. I didn't like being touched that much but I never really said nothing about it."Can we leave now? A bitch is hungry, Sandra."
