Avery's POV
I'm in a hurry now because I woke up late. When I woke up, there were only 40 minutes left before 8:00 AM.
After a few seconds, panic surged through me like a lightning bolt nung mawala din ang hilo ko. "No, no, no," I muttered, rushing to the guest room where Ruth had been staying.
I burst into the room, half-expecting to see her already up and ready, but she was still peacefully asleep.
"Ruth, wake up!" Niyugyog ko siya, feeling the weight of impending lateness bearing down on me.
She groaned and rubbed her eyes, squinting at me in confusion. "What's wrong?"
"It's almost 8:00! We're going to be late for class!" I exclaimed, my voice tinged with desperation.
Ruth's eyes widened in realization as she finally grasped the seriousness of the situation. "Oh no, totoo ba? Napuyat kasi tayo."
"Yes! Get up, we need to leave now!" I urged, my mind racing with thoughts of missed lectures and the professor's inevitable disappointment. May pagkamaldita pa naman ang prof namin ngayong first period.
With a flurry of movement, we both scrambled to get ready in record time. I dashed back to my room, practically leaping into the shower and throwing on my school uniform with trembling hands. Every second ticking by felt like an eternity.
Yung ligo kong 20 minutes, naging 3 minutes lang yata.
As I rushed downstairs, Ruth was already waiting by the door, fixing her neck tie, her expression a mixture of determination and worry.
Secretary KC intercepted us with a knowing smile, which only added to my mounting anxiety. "Good morning, girls. Master Tyler left for school earlier, he said not to wake you up because you stayed up late."
Napakunot naman ang noo ko. Dapat pinagising niya pa rin ako. Ngayon nagmamadali tuloy kami ni Ruth.
"O-okay," I managed to say, my breath still coming in short gasps. "We really have to go."
We didn't dare to pause for breakfast, opting instead to hail a taxi immediately. The ride to Sierra Heights University was tense, the city streets a blur as I anxiously checked my watch every few seconds.
"We might just make it," Ruth said optimistically, trying to lighten the mood as she glanced at her own watch.
Despite her attempt, the worry didn't leave my mind until we arrived on campus. We sprinted to our first class, relief flooding through me as we slipped into our seats just before the professor entered the room.
"We made it," I whispered to Ruth, feeling the adrenaline slowly ebbing away.
She nodded, a small smile breaking through her own relief. "Barely."
As the professor began today's lesson, I could feel myself getting sleepier by the minute. Naramdaman ko na naman ang pananakit ng ulo ko. Ano bang nangyayari sakin?
Despite my efforts to stay awake after pulling an all-nighter, exhaustion was winning. My eyelids drooped, and I started slipping into sleep.
"Hey, Avery," Ruth whispered, nudging me gently. "Gumising ka nga, baka makita ka ng prof."
