June Feng was one of a kind. She is a real estate agent with a secure profession, an Oxford degree, and a social life that includes going out for drinks with friends when she has free time. When she needs a break, she climbs into bed to read and think about her life before and after college. After that, it suddenly hit her: she was about to turn 41 years old. I can't believe she's been here for so long without finding love since her split from her colleague five years ago. Truthfully, their relationship was perfect—except that her partner didn't want children, which was one of her main expectations from the start. June tried to convince her ex-girlfriend as a sperm donor, but she felt ashamed. June supported her decision, despite her strong desire to have a family.

After Lisa left her apartment, she found herself back in her 20s, completely alone.

Midway through May, June checked out a dating website to regain her bravery in the hopes of meeting someone special. A lot of women were interested in her, which caught her off guard. However, she did find one female on the web page who seemed to meet her criteria. She got a headache since, well, she's twenty years younger than her. Does June need consent to text the girl? Was she a catfish? She was uncertain, but she was eager to try nevertheless. June quickly responded with a simple greeting before returning to her list of homes to sell first thing tomorrow.

Melanie, her friend, sent a text message just as she assumed the girl had.

Melanie: My baby shower is tonight. Are you going? x

June: Of course! I'll just go to the store and buy a few things for Tom.

Melanie: You're going to be the best godmother ever. Tom is going to love you, June. I know it.

June harbored a deep resentment towards Melanie for choosing to start a family and commit to her husband. She had always imagined achieving that goal before reaching forty, but instead she made the bold decision to end her relationship with her ex-girlfriend without a moment's hesitation. One of her significant challenges was her tendency to become irrational when her desires went unfulfilled. Despite the advice of her friends, she makes a concerted effort to tune them out. She was indifferent to their opinion, and perhaps that was a negative aspect of her character. June buried her face in her hands and let out a heavy sigh, pondering whether she would ever escape the chaotic whirlwind that had consumed her life. Just as she was about to wrap her scarf around her neck, a message from the young girl she met on the dating website appeared on her screen.

August: wow, i hope you're not a catfish.

June couldn't help but chuckle to herself as she swiftly replied to the girl. August, she thought to herself as she crept a smile on her face. We're only two months apart.

June: Is your name really August? And don't worry, I'm definitely not a catfish. :-)

August: yup! you can probably tell why my name is August.

June: What day were you born?

August: 21. You?

June: 21 as well.

August: well, we have something in common then. we are both named by months, and now we have the same birth number!

June couldn't contain her laughter and settled back into her chair to compose a message. Should I ask her if she's single? God, I hope she's not looking for a third. She's so pretty, why is she on this app? I sincerely hope that I'm not creeping towards her.

June: What are you doing on this website?

While eagerly anticipating August's response, June quickly searched through her drawer and snatched her sunglasses. As she was about to close her laptop, August's message came flying in, catching her attention.

August: i don't know, i'm looking for someone to talk to? i don't want anything too fast, like getting into a relationship really quick.

June: I feel the same way. But my god, you're too young for me, sweetheart.

August: at least i'm legal, right?

June berated herself. It was surprising to see her engaging in conversation with someone so young, but the girl did make a valid point. It would have been quite a predicament for her if she had been an 18-year-old girl. The situation would have been equally troublesome for the girl. She absentmindedly scratched the back of her neck, pondering over a suitable response. The last thing she wanted was to overwhelm August, a decision she knew she would come to regret.

August: sorry! i'm probably not your type, yeah?

June: If I had to be honest, you are my type. You're so beautiful; how can I not resist texting you?

August: i didn't know you were a flirt xD

June: I'm 40, darling. Of course, I know how to flirt. Is this okay for you? I can leave you alone, if that's what you want.

August: yes, it's fine with me. is this okay for you, though?

June: perfectly fine with me. :)

June: I do have to go, though. I have to go to a baby shower. I'll talk to you later, if you're still awake.

August: sure! talk to you later then, June!

June: :))

June left her flat and got on a train to London. On the way, she saw a couple reading the same book together. Her heart was filled with warmth, but a tinge of jealousy began to seep in. Imagine reaching the age of 50, only to find oneself without an individual by their side. What if she no longer captures anyone's attention? She always believed she looked excellent for her age since, as they say, 40 is the new 20. Upon arriving at Melanie's house, she found it to be quite crowded. Her best friend had a penchant for gatherings, particularly when it came to celebrating her impending motherhood at her baby shower. Jonathan, Melanie's husband, greeted June as she put her gift down among the other presents on the table.

"I almost thought you wouldn't make it," he remarked, causing June to release a restrained chuckle. "You're still punctual as ever."

"I wouldn't dare miss this," June responded, graciously accepting a glass of wine from Jonathan. "Thank you, I really needed this."

"Seems like you've had quite a day."

She nonchalantly shrugged. "The usual, you know? However, I met someone."

Jonathan's eyes sparkled with excitement. "Oh, really? Who could it be? Did you tell Melanie about this? June, you have to share with me—"

"So many questions," June interjected with a chuckle, pausing to savor a sip of her wine. Just as she was about to share her story about August, a sudden realization struck her - the significant age difference between them might make him uncomfortable. She pursed her lips and let her imagination run wild with an intriguing scenario. "Just a girl I met online."

"How intriguing," Jonathan echoed. "I had no idea that was something you were interested in."

"Believe me, Jonathan, I had no idea either."

She sensed that it wasn't an opportune moment to disclose the news to Melanie and Jonathan, as they hadn't had a chance to have a meaningful conversation yet. As she scans the room, her eyes land on a familiar face from her high school days. Intrigued, she subtly positions herself near them, hoping to distract herself from thoughts of August. She found solace in the fact that she had something to keep her mind busy.
