One morning, Rania woke up to a coughing Khalid. She checked his temperature and he was burning with a fever. She quickly got up and made him a mug of ginger lemon tea and gave him medicine. Since he didn't look too good, she thought it'd be best to take the work from home today. As she sat at her desk in the bedroom, Khalid was fast asleep. She liked watching him sleep. When he slept, his facial features softened and he looked at peace. Khalid secretly knew that sometimes before Rania fell asleep, she would stare at him. A phone call brought her attention back to her work. The day passed by as she focused on her work and Khalid fighting off the bug.

"I think you're getting better love," commented Rania as she checked his temperature. "Your fever is gone."

"That's a relief," muttered Khalid.

"I'll make some more chicken soup for dinner." Said Rania.

To this Khalid was grateful for. When he was feeling under the weather, he didn't have much of an appetite so soup was the only thing he could gulp down.  After her shift had ended, Rania prayed her Asr and began making the soup. As she chopped the celeries, she couldn't help but be pleased with herself. This was the first time her husband had fallen ill since they got married and now she was taking care of him. She knew it was her responsibility to do so but she also felt grateful for having the chance to do so as odd as that may sound. Rania didn't like seeing her husband ill but she knew it was a means of reward for her when she took care of him. When she was younger, she use to admire how her parents took care of each other when they were sick. Suddenly she heard Khalid rush into the washroom and hurl. She ran after him.

"What's wrong?" She asked fearful.

He flushed the toilet and answered, " I think I have a stomach flu. God, I hate puking." She agreed in silence. Throwing up so painful.

"I'll give you some medicine. Did you also want me to call the doc?"

He nodded. The next day he was scheduled for his appointment. His doctor, Dr. Reckon confirmed that he did indeed have a stomach flu and was commanded to take the next couple of days off to rest. Hafsa knew her boss wouldn't allow her to work from home this week as they were busy with new projects. So she chose to use some of her own sick days to watch over Khalid. She only had 3 remaining for the year and was banking them for when she was actually ill; but something inside the young wife told her that she needed to do this. So for the next couple of days, she woke up early to make him fresh soup, give him his medicine throughout the day and clean around the house. It wasn't until after Wednesday that Khalid got better. After eating soup the entire week, Hafsa had cooked baked chicken and vegetables for dinner. As they ate at the dining table, he surprised her by grabbing her hand saying,

"Thank you my love, for everything." He then laid a kiss at the back of her hand. To this she blushed and nodded.

After his illness, life was good again. They laughed, talked and enjoyed each others company.
The irony was it took Khalid to feel under the weather for a few days to bring out some sunny days into their relationship. Hafsa didn't know how long this good phase of their relationship was going to last for, but for now she welcomed in peace.
