Episode 8 - Grounded

Night

A car drove through Bellwood's streets, with Gwen's parents inside talking while Frank drove.

Frank: I don't mean to get worried, but Gwen dropped a couple grades. You think she's been sleeping enough?

Natalie: There were those couple of nights back in February, but I don't think so. I trust our daughter, even if the Bs and a single C is a bit of a downer.

Frank: Yeah, besides, she's responsible, and she had to do a lot of growing up you know. I hadn't become as independent as her till about 17.

Natalie: Oh, doesn't that explain about you?

Frank smiled.

Natalie: And Gwen, she's been wearing her sleeves longer recently.

Frank: And is that such a bad thing? I mean, it's getting colder you know.

Natalie: Even so, I've noticed something, Ben's been coming over a lot often, hasn't he?

Frank: So? Maybe he's learnt about the importance of family, heck, with Dad travelling again, maybe Ben's learning better than to be out all the time.

Natalie: Honey...

Frank: What?

Natalie: Anyway, and Gwen's been going out a bit more. I'm not saying it's a bad thing, god knows she has friends at school but-

Suddenly, an explosion, an orange ball of fire lit up the street in front of them. The two clambered out their car to see a giant creature tower over them, staring directly down at them...

Mana blasts hit the Highbreed as Ben clambered out a building and shot another at it, Kevin behind him.

Ben: All right, you big ugly piece of f-

He looked over to see if anyone was in the area, and saw Natalie and Frank.

Ben: Filth.

Frank: Ben?

Ben: Hey, Uncle Frank and Aunt Natalie. How's it hanging, leaving sounds like a good idea?

The two began running in the opposite direction, and as they dashed into an alleyway, they saw their daughter, Gwen running.

Frank: G-gwen? Gwen, what are you doing?

Gwen caressed her wrist, leaving both of them confused. Before they got a better view as she raised her arm up.

Natalie: It can't be...

Gwen slammed down on the Omnitrix, transforming into Swampfire, leaving an audible gasp from the two watching parents.

She launched herself forward and kicked at the D.N.Alien, sending it skating back as it kept on it's feet and ran at her, swinging it's fists, she dodged the first two and tried swinging around with her own but was knocked square in the face and sent flying across the street, head hitting the floor.

Highbreed: Gwen Tennyson? Still reeling from my augmented state and my new power?

It heard a voice from behind it.

Kevin: Buddy, if you're saying you're uglier, then yeah, augmented state's a pretty accurate phrase.

Highbreed: You hope to defeat me when I've defeated her?

Kevin: Oh, not me, but him?

The Highbreed looked up to see Ben fall down with energised fists, slamming into him before leaping back and pulling out the proto-tool and it's sword mode, he swung it forward and it sliced into the highbreed's leg, as the Highbreed fell to a knee, it leapt off of that knee and over, shooting multiple blasts of mana into it's leg before landing on his feet.
