Blood pooling into my mouth, I ignore the claws scratching my neck and shoulders. I sink my teeth deeper into my opponent's throat. A sickening gargle bubbles from his bloodied maw as I pull back, leaving a gaping wound in my wake. I release my grip, my opponent's body convulsing into a crimson pool beneath me as I search for my next target.

Sweeping my gaze across the field, a gnawing pit forms in my stomach. Battling wolves infested every corner of the mansion, surrounded by an ever growing number of bodies. Within minutes, our guards had been slaughtered like lambs whilst the rest of our troops had been spread across our territory, each investigating what I grimly concluded to be mere distractions. How could I be so foolish? How did I not see the signs?

A yelp snaps me out of my thoughts. I turn towards a familiar raven black wolf and leap to her aid as a massive, scar covered male sinks his teeth into her shoulder, pinning her down. My head barrels into his side, his exposed belly now vulnerable and I rake my hind legs down his stomach, warm liquid gushing from the wound. He bleeds out in seconds.

I turn to Angel, relieved to see her already back on her paws. Any injuries?

She shakes her pelt. Nothing serious. Her eyes widen and she leaps, barreling into another rogue heading for me. She makes quick work of him before he dashes away, whimpering with his tail between his legs.

A snarl escapes my throat. They're everywhere! We're ooverrun

The cries of battle fill my ears, making it difficult to think and hear her over the link. Have the civilians been evacuated?

I don't know! Panic muddles my thoughts.

Her features harden at my response. Jace, I need you to focus!

I'm tryi- A powerful howl rises in the distance, coming from the mansion. My blood turns to ice, my father's voice calling through the link. The mansion's been breached! As my instincts kick in, my paws draw me forward and across the battlefield, reaching the mansion's entrance within seconds.

The crooked hinges scream as I burst through the doors, splinters spraying my face as the wood snaps. My eyes frantically sweep the carpet floor, searching for Xavier amongst the mess of bodies. Most are Weston wolves, but none are my father. The floor above shakes with commotion and I dash for the stairs, my claws scraping against the waxed wood as I lumber my way through.

Reaching the second floor, the bang of a gun echoes from one of the rooms, guiding me to the scene of an ongoing battle. I leap into the chaos, sinking my teeth deep into the shoulder of the first enemy I see. The wolf yelps, twisting to snap at my neck, but I quickly dodge and aim a blow to his back leg. As he stumbles to the ground, I clamp my jaws into his front leg, drawing blood and I throw him against the furthest wall. His skull connects with the hardened surface, emitting a bloodcurdling crack before he falls dead onto the floor.

I barely catch my breath when another wolf barrels into me and pins me down. Blood oozes into my eyes as a claw slices down my face and scores my ear. Desperate, I crane my neck to the side, jaws clamping firmly on my attacker, and throw him off, allowing me precious seconds to clear my vision. I blink the blood away and freeze as I meet the smoking tip of a shotgun.

The man grins widely. "Got you fucker."

A flash of red fur crashes into the man's side. I duck, dodging the rogue bullet by a hair. The man's scream ends with the snap of his neck and the crimson wolf meets my eye.

Hello Princess.

My blood boils. Ryder!? Where's Xavier, you were meant to stay with him!
