To The Hero We Call Father

A/N: This is a Father's Day oneshot story. By the way, Happy Belated Father's Day.

Lord Raiden, God of Thunder, was outside watching over Liu Kang, Usagi, and his grandchildren, Jake-Long, the older son, and Sae-Byeok, the younger daughter. He couldn't help but think a long time ago when he first met his newborn daughter from his previous life.

Flashback

Princess Serenity was born. Everyone in the Moon Kingdom celebrated her birth. However, they offered her and her mother some gifts, congratulating them for having a daughter. It was then that four-year-old Kitana and her father Jerrod came to visit.

"Congratulations, sister. I have heard you have given birth to a baby girl." Jerrod said as he hugged Queen Serenity.

"Thank you, brother," Queen Serenity said, smiling.

Then he looked over his shoulder at Kitana, smiling at her. "Kitana, would you like to meet your cousin?"

She nodded, grinning. "Yes, Father."

Then Kitana came to meet Princess Serenity in her cradle. As she looked at her, she couldn't help but admire how adorable Princess Serenity was.

"Can I hold her?" Kitana asked.

Queen Serenity nodded. "Of course, Kitana."

"Be careful, Kitana. Make sure you don't drop her." Jerrod warned her softly.

"I won't, Father."

Then the Moon Queen handed her daughter to Kitana carefully. Kitana wrapped her tiny arms around her, cuddling her gently. Princess Serenity began to giggle. She placed her baby hands on Kitana's cheeks, making her giggle.

"I think she likes you," Jerrod whispered.

Kitana and Princess Serenity both giggled happily. Queen Serenity smiled at them, knowing these two were getting along quickly to begin their bonds.

Then Raiden and Fujin, the two brothers, showed up. The God of Thunder and the God of Wind met an infant in the Kitana's arms. They were thrilled to meet the Princess.

"Welcome, Raiden and Fujim. I see you had come to see your daughter for the first time." Jerrod said, smiling.

"We are glad we would, Jerrod," Fujin said, bowed down at the waist, "We wanted to meet her after a few days later she was born."

Raiden then looked at his beloved and smiled- "My Love, she will be a fine Queen one day to rule the kingdom." He came towards the Moon Queen and gently embraced them. That was when the baby Moon Princess saw him, sensing his aura as she realized he was her kind. No, this is her father.

She nodded, smiling at her lover. "Yes. She will someday when she gets older."

"Lord Raiden, would you like to hold her?" Kitana asked, coming up to him.

Raiden nodded. "Of course, little one."

Then Kitana passed her cousin to Raiden in his arms while Queen Serenity, Fujin, and Jerrod watched as they smiled. Serenity looked at him and giggled while smiling at him, moving her arms around. Raiden looked happy as he held his daughter close to him.

"I can't believe I'm an uncle," Jerrod said to himself.

"So am I, Jerrod," Fujin said happily as he overheard him.

Flashback ends

"Father?" Suddenly, Raiden was surprised to hear Liu Kang calling him that.

"Why did you call me that?" Raiden asked curiously.

"That's what I call you. Since your daughter and I were married, I called you Father like you were my father-in-law. Usagi did say she is proud to have you as her father." Liu Kang said, smiling.

He looked down as he recalled. "I see."

Flashback

The parents were attacked and killed by Tarkatans, only for Raiden to appear and save the couple's child, at her last grasp, the mother named the boy Liu Kang.

"Please... take care of Liu Kang..." The mother pleaded with Raiden before her last breath.

"I promise," Raiden said, holding Liu Kang in his arms.

Flashback ends

Raiden smiled at his son-in-law softly. "I am proud to have you as a son, Liu Kang."

"No, Raiden," Liu Kang said as he put his arm around Raiden's shoulders, "I am proud to have you as a father. I also want to say Happy Father's Day since I don't have a real father nor haven't met him."

He chuckled softly. "How kind of you, Liu Kang."

"Hey, guys. We don't wanna miss out on the tournament! We were supposed to be there to support the other fighters, especially Makoto, Kung Lao, and Minako!" Sae-Byeok called out to them.

"We're coming, Sae-Byeok," Liu Kang called back to her before he and Raiden took off to the tournament to meet up with the gang.

Raiden let out a smile as he walked beside Liu Kang. He has to admit he happily has been proud to have a daughter, a son-in-law, and grandchildren ever since he isn't longer after what happened many centuries ago when he lost his wife Queen Serenity, and his previous daughter Princess Serenity to Queen Beryl and Queen Metalia right before many years later he saved Liu Kang's life. He isn't alone anymore now he has them back.
