HE WAS GORGEOUS. Even in the school air, his hair rested in a carelessly perfect way on top of his structured and carved face. His jaw caught the artificial, buzzing light dangling from the hallway ceiling as he walked past, his pink lips parting as a melodic laugh filled the atmosphere. Vienna found her eyes to uncontrollably follow his movements as he stepped by her without a glance. She didn't even realise she was staring, but she couldn't help it. How could a man look so flawless?
"That's Reagan," Wren explained as she tugged on Vienna's hand, pulling her out of her dazed state. Vienna tried to blink his face out of her mind while Wren only watched with a knowing grin and a shake of her head. "He's dating the prom queen, Vee. Don't even go there."
Vienna groaned, throwing her head back as she walked Wren to her locker. "Why do the only men with potential have to date other girls?" She rested her head tiredly against the wall beside Wren's locker.
"At least you have people with potential," she smiled, her cheeks brightening the dullness of the corridor. "The girls here who swing the other way . . . ugh."
Vienna laughed as Wren slammed her locker shut. She swung her arm around the shorter girl's shoulder, leaning her head against her friend's hair.
"I have faith in us. We're just too good for everyone else," she exclaimed, her smile shining through her words. Wren laughed, the movement of her head causing Vienna to lift her own away.
Reagan remained a constant thought in Vienna's mind, no matter Wren's doubts. Suddenly, she would see him everywhere. In the halls, in the schoolyard, in Walmart. He was even in her English class, yet it had taken her an entire month to notice.
