As Dilas lay awake on his bed, staring at his boring off-white ceiling, he wondered if he should still try to sleep or just give up. It was 3:08am. He had been trying to fall asleep for the past hour now, but he was just too excited for tomorrow. His friends said they were going to take him to an enchanted land above the clouds, but he had other things to worry about. His mother had just screamed at him for being friends with dragons, even though they were actually his friends. Dilas’s mom, Shima, had never let her son do anything he wanted. He knew that even when he would grow up to be as old as his mom, she would still tell him how and how not to live his life.
Flashback
“Those beasts you call your friends are dangerous! This is the last time you ever even think about meeting them!” Yelled mom with a nasty scowl on her face.
“Please mom! I promise I’ll be safe! They’re just my friends! They would never do anything to me, we just want to have fun!”
“Don’t you dare talk back to me! I said what I said and that is final! Now go to your room and sleep” She sternly said as she turned back and walked to her room.Flashback ends
Those words had been echoing in his mind since she said them, and he began to think if his mother would be right.
Dilas shook his head softly to get the negative thoughts off his mind and started fantasizing about flying through a magical forest in the skies with his magical dragon friends. Massive trees filled with leaves, hundreds of cute little birds swarming the sky as they merrily chirp around, adorable deer and foxes greeting him as he flies through, the silent swish of the calm breeze as it crashes onto him, the cool atmosphere that makes him feel warm inside, the sun shining through the small gaps in the sky, the serene little river flowing by, and thousands and thousands of little flowers all the colors of the rainbow. As he imagined his adventure, he eventually fell fast asleep.A few hours later, he awoke as tired as he was when he fell asleep. It only felt like a couple seconds. He couldn't be bothered to wait for warm water, so he decided to take a shower with cold water… to his surprise, the chilling cold burnt more than hot water. He picked out the clothes he wore probably once a year, only for special occasions, and sneakily tip-toed outside. He made sure to make as little noise as possible as he closed the door when his father, Lenoil, appeared in front of him. He had always liked his father more than his mother. Though he was still against him having dragon friends, he was much lighter on him than mom and rarely bothered him about it.
"Good Morning Dilu" he looks at Dilas confused yet pleasantly surprised, "Are you going anywhere?"
"No, I just felt like wearing this today" he said as he glanced at his sage green tshirt, mustard yellow pants, and his iconic black leather jacket. Dilas had always been the best at lying. He's pretty sure he got those genes from his father.
"Ok then, breakfast is in the kitchen, it's your favorite" he said with a smile, then walked to the dining table. His eyes lit up as the fresh scent of maple hit his nose. Dilas rushed to the kitchen and gazed at the glistening pancakes drenched with maple syrup. He hogged every last bit and sped out the open door.
"Dilu! Come back!" Called mom, still inside the kitchen making pancakes for herself
"Yes mom? What do you want?" Mom always managed to find a way to call for him the moment he leaves.
"I know you're going out to play, just tell me what you want for lunch so I don't have to wait for you." He was a bit taken aback by that response but he didn't think to complain.
"Oh, I'll just eat lunch at one of my friends' houses, you don't need to worry"
"Well ok, just stay safe and don't talk to those dragon friends" replied mom as she absent-mindedly continued cooking.Dilas runs out the door, ecstatic to see his magical friends Hira and Tilex. He was dashing through the tall grass, his mind too clouded by the excitement of the upcoming adventure that he couldn’t see clearly. As he stopped to catch his breath, he accidentally bumped into a shiny creature.
“Oh sorry” he mumbled under his breath, still tired from running.
“Look up shorty” said a mysterious yet pleasant voice from above.
Dilas looks up carefully and sees a massive majestic colbat blue coloured dragon right before his eyes.
“Hira? How did you get so big?” Dilas said in absolute awe.
“Oh this?” She looked at herself and shrugged “Just dragon things I guess.”
“Have you seen Tilex anywhere?”
“I’m pretty sure he’s waiting for us in Relida. C’mon let’s go!”
Dilas jumped onto Hira’s back. Beautiful cornflower scales lining her back along with cute little periwinkle spots all around her body.
“You ready?” Asked Hira as she looked up at Dilas. He replied with a confident nod. And just like that, they were off in the sky. Dilas looked around like a kid in a candy shop. He saw crows and baby phoenixes flying through the sky. He giggles as a cool breeze, probably a small cloud, hits his face. He hears a plane flying in the distance. This whole experience feels so surreal to him, too shocked to know what to think. Surprise, excitement, confusion, concern, regret. All emotions rush to his mind in a matter of seconds.
“Hey Dilas?”
“Oh, uh yes Hira?” He snapped out of his thinking.
“We’re here.First chapter done :D
