Cain's P.O.V

I did my best to stay in contact with Adriel and Alexander on the trip. Alexander was busy preparing for my mother and Aidan's trial. I wanted to witness it. I worked hard to return home as soon as possible. I kept my meetings short. A lot of people showed concerns about my age. They stopped babbling when I discussed my plans to strengthen my country's bond with them. I was exhausted by the third week. Adriel would be on break soon. I was looking forward to spending time with him. I was on my way to the Singapore summit. I was planning to stay there for a week.

Something was telling me that things were about to escalate. I asked Flynn to tighten the security. I could feel the tension when the plane landed. The welcome was great. I made my way to the hotel after greeting everyone. A bullet flew by me when I stepped out of my car. There was a sniper in the area. My bodyguards shielded me. It was hard to breathe with them hovering over me. I almost lost control over my powers. It would be hard to explain things if humans saw my form. I gasped when someone threw a gas bomb at us.

A man suddenly reached his hand out to me. The head of my bodyguards yelled, "He is one of the officials, sir. Go with him!" I followed the official into the hotel. The man handed me his handkerchief and uttered, "How are you, Cain?" I wiped my face and asked, "Do I know you from somewhere, sir?" The man was in his sixties. He laughed and answered, "Yes. We met years ago. I'm glad to see that you're alive and well." The man disappeared when my men showed up. I sighed and asked, "Who is he, and when did he arrive? I don't think meeting him here is a coincidence."

Flynn handed me a file and said, "Mr. Riccardo Betto is from Italy, sir. He's the Italian prime minister's right-hand man. He accompanies him everywhere. They arrived right after us." I nodded and asked, "What did you discover about the attack?" Flynn led me to the elevator. He pushed the button and replied, "The authorities are looking into it, sir. We will hear more about the matter later." I was too tired to concentrate. I rubbed my forehead and uttered, "Don't let the news about the attack spread. You can take a rest now. We'll talk later." I took a shower when I reached my room. I was about to have lunch when Alex appeared. He hugged me from behind and uttered, "I saw what happened. Stay away from Riccardo Betto. I think he is the man I have been looking for all this time."

I turned to face Alex and asked, "Aren't you going to ask me if I am alright?" Alex grinned and replied, "We have a strong connection. Nothing and no one can harm you while I'm alive. Well, what happens after I die is another story." I kissed Alex passionately and stated, "Don't talk nonsense. We will die together from old age." Alex chuckled and said, "Come on, let's eat. I'm starving." Alexander and I decided to eat on the balcony. The view was mesmerizing. Alex and I chatted while eating. I frowned when Alex uttered, "Adriel got attached to Ethan. He keeps calling the little boy "Brother." I gazed at the sky and asked, "How is Ethan doing now? I bet he misses my mother."

Alex finished his drink and replied, "The boy has lost weight. Your father is struggling to take care of him. Ethan's nannies have resigned." I shook my head and uttered, "My father should have given the boy to Maverick and Amal. Ethan has a bond with their children. He would be happy there." I knew something was up when Alex uttered, "We found Ethan's parents. They got what they deserved for abandoning the child. Both parents are now married and have their own families. They don't want anything to do with Ethan. What do you suggest we do with the child?"

I chuckled and uttered, "Why are you asking me this, Alex? Put him in an orphanage if nobody wants him?" Alex growled and asked, "Do you mean that?" I sighed and replied, "I can hire nannies for the boy. My father can take his time to grieve." Alex kissed my cheek and said, "Good job. I wasn't asking you to adopt him or anything. Ethan is adorable, that's for sure. I can see why Adriel wants to protect him." I sighed while thinking about Ethan. He didn't deserve the pain he was going through. Alex wanted to leave after eating. I kissed him and said, "Lay down next to me, my mate. You look tired." Alex hugged me and replied, "Okay, but only till you fall asleep." I dreamt about Adriel and Ethan that afternoon. Alex was gone when I woke up. He had duties to fulfill, and I respected that.

I got ready for my meeting. All the guests had already arrived when we reached the venue. A Singaporean official invited me to another room. He apologized for the attack and said that the culprits were in custody. I laughed when I heard that they were teenagers. I didn't believe the official. I decided to leave everything up to Alex. He would make sure the real culprits ended up in jail. The meeting went smoothly. We prepared to leave the country the next day. The flight back to home was long and tiring. I went straight to Alex's house when I arrived. Alex was sleeping soundly in his bed. I had already showered on the plane. I changed my clothes and joined Alex.

My mate hummed when I kissed his temple and pulled him closer. I smiled in satisfaction when Alex placed his head on my chest. Adriel woke me up in the morning. He threw himself at me and yelled, "Thank you for the gifts, Daddy!" I kissed my son's head and asked, "Are you enjoying your break, Adriel?" Adriel nodded and replied, "Yes, Daddy. I have already finished my homework, so I'm free now." I ruffled my son's head and uttered, "Good boy!" Adriel giggled and closed his eyes. I took a shower while Adriel was asleep. It was soon time for breakfast. I was surprised when Alex's father said, "Your mother's trial will start Monday, Cain. Are you planning to attend it?"

I smiled and replied, "Of course. I'll be there. I want to see how my mother defends herself." News about my mother spread like wildfire in the supernatural community. Alex had arranged a spot for me at the courthouse. I could watch the trial in private. My eyes fell on Ethan first when I reached the location. The boy was sitting alone in a corner. He was holding his stuffed bunny close to his chest. Ethan looked pitiful. My father was pacing back and forth in front of him. Alex was right. The boy had lost a lot of weight. He looked pale as well. I groaned when I saw Maverick and his family. They were ignoring the omega child.

I crouched before Ethan and asked, "Are you alright, little Ethan?" The little boy rubbed his eyes and cried, "Uncle Cain. I want grandma!" My heart shattered when the boy started wailing. My father groaned and yelled, "Can you look after him, Cain? My head is a mess!" I picked up Ethan and said, "Come, sweetheart. I know where you will be welcome. And don't worry about your grandma. You can visit her whenever you want." Alex was discussing matters with his men. I approached him and uttered, "I'll be right back." Alex knew where I was going. He smiled and uttered, "Go ahead."

I went straight to Alex's house. Adriel was having lunch by the pool with his grandparents. He gazed at Ethan and asked, "Why is Ethan crying, Daddy?" Alex's mother stroked Adriel's head and uttered, "Your father will talk to you about later, baby boy. Let's concentrate on cheering up Ethan for now." I handed Ethan over to Alex's father and said, "I'll be back soon to pick him up." Alex's father nodded and replied, "It's alright. Take your time. We'll be here." I gazed at Ethan before leaving. The boy had stopped crying. He quickly ate the chicken tender Adriel gave him. I felt sorry for the boy but couldn't do anything to resolve his dilemma. I needed to build a bond with my son first.
