Chapter 20
Three weeks passed, and no action had been taken from either side. Preparations had certainly been made, as there were patrols and battalions set up at every border with the Kingdom of Vampires.
However, nothing really happened for those three weeks besides me spending time with those I cared about, even taking Stryker out for a ride or two so he wasn't cooped up next to the Ivory Palace doors.
When things finally happened however, the war exploded.
I woke up and got dressed and prepared for the day as normal before walking down to the throne room. Despite the throne room easily being the largest room in the Ivory Palace, it was a place I could think at the top of my capability. There was just something about it that I couldn't quite put my finger on.
However, even in the room my brain operated best in, I felt that something was off.
The others came down in the following minutes, the bad feeling I had continuing to intensify despite my attempts to shake it off.
"You ok?" Troy asked, "You look concerned about something."
"Just a bad feeling," I said.
"Well, I must say, with everything that's happened, recently, Master Tyris, I'd be more surprised if you weren't at least a bit concerned," Donner replied.
Just then, I heard a boom in the distance.
"Did anyone else hear that?" Percy asked.
"Let's check it out," I said.
We all rushed just outside the door, Stryker already standing and growling as we stood on the stairs of the Ivory Palace, where we could see just over the walls, and there were war machines lined up a few hundred meters from the gates, thousands of soldiers behind them.
"Holy shit," Troy said, "They're here."
"And in force," Jaxis replied.
"What do we do?" Jalin asked in a panicked tone.
"The only thing we can," I said, "We go. Donner?"
"Yes, Master Tyris?" he asked.
"Take Aurora, Seryn, and Elizabeth into the Treasury, where no one can get to them," I said.
"You can't possibly think that's a good idea?" Elizabeth asked, "What if someone needs-"
"Elizabeth, we need you three safe!" I interjected, turning and admittedly speaking in a harsher tone than normal, "Aurora almost died, and I know that Troy cares for you and Jaxis for Seryn the same as I care for Aurora, and I don't think any of the three of us could possibly go on if we knew that our Heartmate was dead!"
"Nick, all due respect on the stairs of your own palace," Jaxis said, "I think they're serious. Besides, our three best doctors are standing right here, not to mention the fact that all three of them kick ass."
"I agree with Jaxis," Troy replied, "I see your point, Nick, and I appreciate your concern and your looking out for them, but they're instrumental to this, too."
"Fine," I said, "You three please be careful."
"The same goes for you, my love," Aurora replied.
"Mister Donner, change of plans," I said, "Rally the army, and especially the new Commandants."
"At once, my lord," Donner replied, running off toward the barracks to rally the army.
