Chapter 05: Performance
Slightly panting, Sheng Yan ended his performance and bows again at them.
"That's all. Thank you." A round of applause sounded again.
"Wow! That was a warm performance. Thank you for that, Sheng Yan," Jiang Su commented while smiling brightly at the young man.
Sheng Yan smiles shyly. "T-Thank you, Mr. Jiang."
"Haha! Don't be shy. You did great. Now, let's hear the evaluation of our judges."
The virtual bodies of the three mentors floated in front of Sheng Yan.
"Sheng Yan, what do you think of your performance today?" Lin Yu asks.
"U-Uhm... I think it's okay, Teacher." Sheng Yan answers with a hint of nervousness and hesitation.
"Well," Lin Yu nods. "You did great about conveying your emotions to your performance today. Albeit there are some things that need to change. Such as the movement of your dance. Earlier when you turned around, the step was supposed to be you tilting your shoulders away, but you didn't. It was only your head. You should remember that every step must be done with proper execution. Understand?" Lin Yu advises with his gentle voice making Sheng Yan's nervousness ease as he listens with its evaluation enthusiastically.
"I-I understand. Thank you, Teacher Lin."
"Okay, congratulations on your performance."
Next was Pei Roujin. The movie actor stares at Sheng Yan for a second before he bluntly asks; "Since you've been preparing for five years, you are already aware of what our industry wants, right?"
Sheng Yan was stunned before he subconsciously touched his face and nodded. He bowed his head down with disappointment.
"In our circle, a face must have if you want to survive actually. In some cases, even someone who doesn't have real skills but has a face will survive. It's an unfortunate truth." Pei Roujin explains. Sheng Yan seemed to be discouraged even more and bowed his head lower.
"However, real artists will never be like that." Pei Roujin tilted his head and looked at the 200 participants in this stadium. "A real artist will prove his worth with its heart and soul. Even without an outstanding appearance, strong background, or even natural talents, as long as you work hard everyday, you will always have a place to stay to survive in this circle. And," he slightly paused and looked at Sheng Yan.
"You proved it to us today, Sheng Yan."
"I-I..." Sheng Yan's eyes turn red and he bows to Pei Roujin repeatedly. "T-Thank you, Teacher."
Pei Roujin just nodded and let Xu Xinyi speak this time. Sheng Yan looks nervous even more. Xu Xinyi is known for her sharpness and being too strict. He didn't know if he could receive good feedback. No, maybe not having a good one is considered luck rather than hearing her talk harshly at you.
"Your performance is not perfect nor even too good. But, as your Instructor Pei said, you really did prove to us that you have the soul to be an idol. Congratulations."
"Thank you, Teacher Xu!"
The first performance ended with a pleasant surprise. And as expected, the mentors give him at least 7 points each. The other participants were also satisfied with him, this giving him a total of 110 points.
Which means Sheng Yan passed.
A bright smile finally appears on his lips and he bow down with happiness and relief.
Then, the second participant went on the stage. Again and again... until it's finally his turn.
He stands in the middle of the stage and looks at everyone calmly. He was about to say something when the virtual body of Xu Xinyi suddenly popped up in front of him wearing her cold face.
