Jayla actually enjoyed waking up for once the next morning. Her mind wasn't clouded with negativity and instead, she actually felt kind of happy.

The only thing that made her sad that day was the fact that part of their group at the camp was leaving for the city on a run.

She was helping Amy with their sticks for the fire when static was heard. The radio nearby was emitting a sound that sounded like a voice.

Both Amy and Jayla dropped their sticks and ran for the radio. Amy picked it up immediately. "Hey. Hello?"

Other members from the group including a man named Dale all came up together towards them.

"Can you hear my voice?" The man's voice asked from the other end.

"Yes, I can hear you. You're coming through. Over." Amy said back.

"If anybody reads, please respond. Broadcasting on emergency channel. Will be approaching Atlanta on highway 85. If anybody reads, please respond."

Amy and Jayla glanced at each other, eyes slightly wide. Amy clicked the button on the radio again. "We're just outside the city."

The radio crackled. "Damn it." She tried messing with the radio to get it to clear up.

"Hello? Hello?"

Jayla sighed in frustration. "He can't hear you. Our radio isn't reaching him. We can't even warn him about the city. If he heads there, he's gonna be in some serious trouble."

"Try to raise him again." Dale told the girl.

Shane began walking closer to them. Dale pointed at him. "Come on, son. You know best how to work this thing."

Shane brought his axe down on the wood in front of them, reaching his hands out for the radio. He got down on his knee, bringing the piece up to his mouth to speak into it.

"Hello, hello. Is the person who called still on the air?"

Silence.

"This is officer Shane Walsh broadcasting to person unknown. Please respond."

Silence.

Shane dropped the radio and looked down. "He's gone."

There was silence for a moment before Lori spoke up. "There are others. It's not just us."

"We knew there would be, right? That's why we left the C.B. on." Shane responded.

"A lot of good it's been doing." Lori said back, sass dripping from her lips.

Shane looked away. "Okay." He whispered.

"And I've been saying for a week we ought to put signs up on 85 to warn people away from the city." Lori told him.
