Finally

They were on the boat home..

And while the camp fam was excited, they couldn't help but feel a bit down noticing one of them wasn't...

Kenji had given them smiles whenever they were excited, but they'd all noticed him frowning, who wouldn't be after there only family abandoned them..

And what's worse is that they would have to tell him some news that wouldn't really help his case...

While Kenji was sitting his a corner of the couch, the campers, making their own excuses, snuck away to discuss how they should break the news..of the distress signal Daniel Kon received...

Brooklynn: I don't know how we're gonna tell him.. *sadly glances at him sitting on a couch in the boat*

Kenji was sulking, his face blank, staring out at the sea,

Darius: honestly..we should just..tell him..

Yaz: that's the best way..

Sammy: I'm worried how he'll handle it..I mean, he hates being around so many people when he's sad n all..

Brooklynn: what choice do we have?..plus, I think he'd be more upset if he found out we never told him at all...

Ben: ...then it's settled, we tell him, even though he can't hide off somewhere, we tell him..

Brooklynn: *sighs* here goes nothing...

(They walk up to him)

Brooklynn: Hey Kenj...! Can we uh..talk to you?
*gestures at the very awkwardly smiling camp fam*

Kenji: *sad smile fades to confusion* uh..yeah? What's up? *stands up* ...*sees them all frown* ..guys?

Yaz: Kenji..

Darius: Kenji,..your dad- uh..he-

Kenji: *stiffens a bit* g-got arrested, I know. *blank face*

Brooklyn: No!..Kenji, your dad got the distress signal..

Kenjis eyes widened, he felt his stomach drop, his heart racing,

Kenji: w-what??..n-no he- he would've still tried- tried to find me..he wouldn't just- *puts a hand on his head as his eye look everywhere*

Brooklynn: KENJI! Kenji, *grabs his hand and holds it while she puts a hand to his face*

Kenji teared up as his eyes softened

Kenji: He wouldn't...*sniffles a bit*

Yaz: we didn't know how to tell you..

Kenji: ...I-I need to..be alone...for a bit..

Brooklynn called his name as he walked away, hiding to the best of his ability..

Brooklyn: ...I didn't want to hurt him more..

Darius: *puts a hand on her shoulder* Brooklynn..there's nothing anyone could've said to soften that blow.. he just needs a bit..

Darius frowned looking at Kenjis legs pull away, his whole self hiding behind a small wall towards the end of the boat.

Brooklynn: honestly..he doesn't like being alone..he's just..

Ben: scared...

Brooklynn nodded,

Brooklynn: I'm gonna talk to him..

Darius: should we-..

Brooklynn: in a bit..?

The group nodded and waited on the couch, Brooklynn approaching Kenji.

Kenji was curled up, his knees pulled up to his chest, his face hiding in them.

Brooklynn: Hey..

Kenji merely tensed his body, nuzzling his face closer into his knees.

Brooklynn: I know you don't wanna be alone...*sits next to him* *feels Kenji lay his head in her shoulder* *sadly smiles*

Kenji: *croaks out* he wouldn't just leave me...

Brooklynn: Oh Kenj I'm sorry..*hugs him*

Brooklynn could feel him wrap his arms around her neck, his shoulder in her collarbone, she could feel her neck soak in his tears, she wrapped her arms around his waist, one on his head.

The camp fam stared confused as they saw half of Kenjis body in the small hallway, his back shaking. Seeing this, they made there move.

No one made a sound, just silently sitting down with them. The only noise being Kenjis sobs.

Brooklynn: sh..you're ok...ok? You're alright...

Roxy: *silently gasps when she sees them*

Brooklynn gave her a polite look, glancing elsewhere to send the message that they're fine.

Roxy nodded, smiled and walked away.

Kenji kept huffing and crying till he slowly got off of her and looked at everyone,

Kenji: I'm sorry..I-

Everyone tackled him in a hug, causing him to have his tears fall all over again.

Kenji: he- *hic* he- *hic* left- *hic* me- *hic* did- *hic* he- even- *sob* care??...

Darius: whoa..easy bro first breathe..

Brooklynn laid a hand on his chest, feeling him slowly breathe.

Kenji: *shakily sighs and tries again* I'm..I'm ok...*sniffles* I can't..I can't believe he abandoned me...he really never cared...

Brooklynn: hey it'll be ok..ok?

Kenji: can you see if there's any news on him landing..?

Brooklynn smiled and nodded, kissing his forehead, the group left and Kenji was left on the end of the boat..
