When he asks you what you want.

Heeseung had spent the evening with his fellow ENHYPEN members, enjoying their usual banter and camaraderie. As they relaxed after dinner, the topic naturally turned to girlfriends and birthday gifts, prompting Sunghoon to kick off the conversation with a lighthearted complaint.

"I swear, every time I think I've found the perfect gift, she ends up wanting something shiny or something that's 'so in right now'. It's impossible to keep up!"

Ni-ki chuckled in agreement, adding, "Tell me about it. Last time I got her a necklace, she said she already had too many necklaces. How am I supposed to know?"

Jay joined in with a laugh, "You think necklaces are tough? Try clothes! Every time I think I've got it right, it's either the wrong size or the wrong style. It's like a minefield!"

Heeseung laughed along with them, though his thoughts wandered to you at home. He couldn't help but smile to himself, thinking about how you never really asked for anything specific, unlike the other girlfriends they were discussing. He listened quietly, realizing he was often the one trying to guess what you might like, rather than being guided by your hints.

When Sunoo turned the conversation towards him, curiosity lighting up his expression, Heeseung paused thoughtfully before responding.

"Honestly, she's not like that," he began, a fond smile tugging at his lips. "She values thoughtfulness over extravagance. She never really asks for anything particular."

Sunghoon raised an eyebrow in surprise. "Seriously? No hints or anything?"

Heeseung nodded, amusement dancing in his eyes. "None at all. She's content with what she has. If anything, I'm usually the one trying to figure out how to surprise her."

Sunoo grinned mischievously, nudging Heeseung playfully. "Must be nice, man. No complaints about brands being out of date or sizes being wrong?"

Heeseung chuckled softly, glancing down at his phone momentarily. "Yeah, it's easier in some ways. But I still want to make sure she feels special, especially with her birthday coming up."

The conversation continued with more stories and friendly teasing about the trials of gift-giving. Each member shared their experiences and strategies for navigating the complexities of pleasing their girlfriends, amidst laughter and camaraderie.

Later that evening, as Heeseung returned home, he found you curled up on the couch with a book, completely absorbed in its pages. He couldn't help but smile at the sight of you, so engrossed in your own world. Sitting down beside you, he leaned in to press a kiss to your cheek.

"Hey," he greeted softly, his voice warm with affection.

You glanced up briefly, offering a smile before returning your attention to the book. "Hey. Did you have a good time?"

He nodded, his hand finding yours naturally. "Yeah, it was fun."

Not missing a beat, you continued reading, casually remarking, "Is there something you wanted to tell me?"

Heeseung blinked in surprise. "How did you know? You didn't even look up," he chuckled softly, genuinely impressed by your perceptiveness.

You shrugged lightly. "Just a feeling. So, what is it?"

Taking a deep breath, Heeseung broached the subject gently. "Well, since your birthday is next week, I was wondering if there's anything special you'd like?"

You pondered for a moment, a small pout forming on your lips. "Hmm... I don't think so. I have everything I need."

Heeseung furrowed his brows slightly, recalling their earlier conversation. "But all the other girls seem to want something special. I feel like maybe you do too, but you're not telling me."

You sighed softly, setting the book aside and meeting his gaze with affectionate eyes. "I really don't. I feel like asking for more would be selfish when I already have everything. I don't want you to feel like you have to spend money on me."

Heeseung shook his head gently, squeezing your hand reassuringly. "It's not selfish at all. I want to make you happy, you know that."

Finally relenting with a soft smile, you nodded. "Okay, fine. If you really want to get me something, since you'll be going on tour to America soon, maybe you could bring me back a book."

Heeseung blinked, surprised but relieved by your request. "A book? That's it?"

You nodded again, a spark of excitement in your voice. "Yeah. There's this one book I've been wanting, but I can't find it anywhere online. It's only available in America."

Heeseung chuckled warmly, touched by your simplicity and sincerity. "Alright then. Consider it done. I'll find that book for you."

As he leaned in to kiss you softly, you couldn't help but feel grateful for his understanding and love. Sometimes, the simplest gifts meant the most, especially when they came from someone who knew you so well.
