"I feel like I don't see you a lot anymore." Alyssa complained as she munched on her peanut butter sandwich.

"What do you expect me to say to that?"

She rolled her eyes.

"That you're sorry and you'll try to meet me more often?"

"Fine. Whatever."

"What's wrong?"

"Nothing. I'm just feeling a little sick."

"We can go stop by the doctor-"

"It's just a little fever. Stop overreacting."

Alyssa shook her head and began scrolling through Netflix to choose a movie. I opened my phone and saw a few texts from Atlas.

A: When are you gonna be back?
A: Hello? Are you alive?
A: Emmy's trying to eat my hair.

I laughed out loud and began replying to him.

L: Unfortunately, I'm not dead yet. Though I'm sure you'd like that.
A: As if.
L: I can cut my evening with Alyssa short if you want.
A: No, you enjoy. I'll manage over here.
L: <3
A: PS - I'm leaving the extra key under the carpet, so pick it up and put it back when you get home.
L: Why? Where are you going?
A: Just to the restaurant.
L: Bib's or Corrigan's? And isn't it your day off?
A: Bib's. And I'm going there to meet Amy.
L: Oh. Okay.
A: Is that a problem?
L: Nope. You enjoy.

I closed the chat off before he could reply. I knew it wasn't technically his fault, and he was allowed to meet his friends without asking for my permission. But I couldn't help be a little wary of Amy. Nevertheless, I wasn't about to let this ruin my night with Alyssa.

"Give me the remote." I said. "It's my turn to choose a movie."

The house was eerily silent, but I turned on the TV and played some music. It was almost eleven, but Atlas hadn't returned yet. I tried not to get angry because of that. My hair was tied in a messy bun, and I was wearing my pyjamas. Settling on the couch with a bag of popcorn, I decided to continue watching the series I'd started at Alyssa's.

But then someone tapped on my shoulder and I shouted out, scrambling away. To my relief, though, it was just Josh.

"Um, did I do something wrong, or-?" he asked.

"I didn't know you were home."

"Yeah, well. Has Atlas come back yet?"

"Nope, not yet."

"He said he'd be back by nine."

"It's fine. He must be occupied elsewhere."

"What's that supposed to mean?"

"Nothing. Have you eaten dinner?"

"No, I was about to make some ramen."

"Don't. I'll order pizza."

He smiled, but there was a nervous tension in it.

"Is everything alright?"

"Mmhm. Today was Sutton's surgery, you know."

"Actually, I didn't know. Maybe that's why Atlas isn't back yet."

"Hmm," he spoke. "I'm worried, though."

I patted the cushion next to me and he silently sat down.

"About what?"

"The surgery. He said it was risky."
