He'd done it. Sirius had finally done it.

He'd finally tipped their mother over the edge. Ten year old Regulus had locked himself in his brother's room, he missed his brother's company and he was going to continue to miss his brother while he was still allowed too miss him, before his mother came upstairs and dragged him out of Sirius's room.

It was only the second of September but when you are a member of the noble house of Black you better expect news to travel damn fast, and you better hope you can be the one to share the news before anyone beats you too it. Unfortunately for Sirius and his new this wasn't the case. Their older cousin shared his news. Narcissa had sent a letter breaking the news the second the sorting ceremony had finished. She broke the news almost as quickly as Sirius had broken tradition.

The family tradition, what a stupid thing expecting and forcing generations upon generations of a family to be the same, act the same, hell even think the same. The whole family had been the same so why the hell did Sirius have to ruin? That's what Regulus thought anyway as he was pulled out of his thoughts by the noise of his mother screaming downstairs, screaming into a howler she was about to send to her eldest son, Sirius Orion Black, the noble house of Blacks, Gryffindor.

Broken tradition. Gryffindor.

Blood traitor. Gryffindor.

Worthless. Gryffindor.

Those words would know be the words their mother used to define Sirius, no matter what he could ever achieve in his life, that's all she'd ever see him as.

Regulus could hear his mother coming upstairs, screaming his name as he stayed silent in Sirius's room. He heard her going into his room and every other room on that floor of the house in search for her youngest son. Her only shot at an heir. Regulus held his breath as he saw the doorknob to Sirius's room move. He heard his mother cast alohomora, he saw her walk into the room, his eyes quickly cast to the floor as his mother dragged him out Sirius's room, forbidding him from going back in their, it was clear that she had made up her mind, if Sirius couldn't be a good heir after all the time and effort she had put into raising him, after always being stricter on Sirius than Regulus in attempts to ensure Sirius was the perfect heir, what she had spent 12 years doing for Sirius, she would have one singular year to do for Regulus before he stepped a foot in Hogwarts. For she would not allow for both her sons to disappoint her.

Perfect Heir. Slytherin.

Perfect son. Slytherin.

Traditional. Slytherin.

No matter what Regulus could ever dream of achieving in his life, he was no longer allowed to dream. Those words would dictate his future, the rest of his life, it was all he was allowed to become. He'd never be allowed to change, they wouldn't risk him becoming Sirius.

Forbidden.

And just as quickly as his mother had came upstairs she had gone, locking her ten year old son alone in his room to cry. Forbidden from writing to his brother. Forbidden from having a choice. Forbidden from having a life of his own. Forbidden from making his own friends when he would later arrive at Hogwarts. His mother had made sure he had listened to her before she left, it wasn't the first time she had raised her wand to her youngest son, but it was certainly the worst.

And you already know she had made sure that Regulus would never be as open and honest to Sirius as he had been the previous day, ever, again. Any relationship the brothers once had, was destroyed within minutes by their mother and by the letter from Narcissa, better yet it was destroyed by Sirius himself without even knowing what he had done.

He'd done it. Sirius had finally done it.
