MAKARIA

HELEN, ARES, AND I MARCHED TOWARDS THE location the spell gave us. If I said I wasn't nervous, I would be lying. I hadn't seen my mother in a very long time, and I didn't know what would I do if I did.

Kill her for leaving us? But she had too. Hades would have imprisoned her in hell—somewhere we wouldn't ever find—that if he wasn't part of her disappearance to this school.

For a moment, I felt that there was something wrong as we got closer to the location. The atmosphere changed and the air suddenly became thick.

As we rounded a corner, a figure popped up startling Ares and Helen.

I was startled, but thank god I didn't show it.

Eros stood in front of us with his signature smirk. His white wings were tucked, while his hair was disheveled—looked like he just came out from a make out session.

A sudden flashback strolled into my mind. Eros and I were walking in hell—too invested in the subject of Persephone and Theseus. I was so mad and I needed to tell someone. Eros was the only person there for me. He knew what I liked and what I didn't like. As much as he was a dick and a player, he was a good boyfriend—though too full of himself.

"Hey, there." Eros flashed his white teeth as he looked at me from head to toe. "You look so beautiful."

I rolled my eyes. How can he be so...so god!

"Shut up and what are you doing here?!" I whisper-yelled.

Ares knuckles turned white as he glared at Eros. As if Eros sensed his fiery glares, he turned to Ares and his smirk got wider.

"Of course, I am here to see you." Eros told me.

"We are busy, leave." I scowled, bumping my shoulder with his and continued walking, but of course, him being so stubborn, he followed me.

"Love, tell me what's going on—I am here to help."

"Makaria."

"Ria, my love."

I stopped walking, turned around, smiled at him, and punched him right in the face.

His smile never faltered.

Fuck that.

"You wound me."

"Leave or I'll end you." Ares said this time as he walked in front of me.

Eros chuckled. "Are you her bodyguard or what?"

Ares smirked before taking my hand in his and said, "bodyguard?" Ares chuckled, "I am her boyfriend."

This time, Eros' smile disappeared and instead, a scowl replaced his beautiful smile.

"Makaria? Is that true?" Eros asked with a disappointed tone.

I tightened my hold on Ares' hand and said, "Yes."

Eros got angry and in a blink of an eye, he attacked Ares with a punch. It didn't faze him.

They continued fighting, while I retrieved myself with Helen.

"Let's go."

"But they—"

"Let's just go. We need to find my mother."

We ran towards the stairs and as soon as we reached, we started searching in the walls, looking for a hidden door.

When I came here last time, it was dark, but the lights today were turned on.

"There!" Helen pointed at the lightbulbs stuck to the wall. There was a small handle that could be turned around.

We twisted the handle and the wall opened.

A steel staircase came into view, but no light came from inside.

"Here we go." I sighed as we both descended the stairs.
