I was getting married in 2 days and I still didn't have a dress. If I was going to beat Marline in the "Best Dressed" competition at the White Chapel Wedding Sation, also known as WCWS, then I have to find a really really really pretty dress. I was out with my mother, Anne with hopes to find the perfect dress. "Don't worry," my mom said. "You'll definitely have the best dress. Then you'll get the trophy."
We walked into the wedding store. They had everything for weddings. Cakes, dresses, tuxes, shoes, hairpieces, etc. "Thanks, mom." The man at the front desk walked right up to us. "Hello! What can I help you with?" I walked forward. "I would like a dress. My wedding is in 2 days and I need a really pretty dress. I need to win a competition for the prettiest dress." He put his hand on his chin. "Well follow me and I'll show y'all our finest selection of dresses." We walked for about 3 minutes (this store is huge!), and finally came to the back of the store. "This is the room where our best dresses are kept. We don't want anything to happen to them." There was a sparkle that caught my eye. I walked over to it and pulled it out to see. It was the prettiest thing I have ever seen in my whole life.
"Are you still drooling over that dress?" My mother asked me. It was an hour later and we were having lunch. "It's so pretty." I started to take it out from under the seat. "No, no. I've seen it enough." The waitress came back with our soup and pizza. The pizza to my mother, and the soup to me. "Mmm. This pizza is good." I looked up and she had sauce all over her face. I laughed. "Mom, you have (laugh) pizza all over your (snort) face!" She took her napkin and dabbed her mouth. "You know, I think that I saw a better dress than that." She eyed me. "Really?" I said, trying to sound interested. "Yeah. It's actually down the street from here. Once we're done our lunch I'll show you." I rolled my eyes. I knew what she was doing. For whatever reason, she didn't like the dress I picked out. "Really? That's ok, I like this dress. I know you wanted to do some stuff once you got home, so I'll let you do that stuff." I don't think she knew I was trying to ditch her. It's not that I didn't want to hang out with her, it's just that I love the dress I have, and she was trying to get me into another one. I was hooked on this one, and the other one probably wouldn't be as pretty. I wanted to win the dress competition, and if I was going to do that, I would have to get a really pretty dress. Which I did.
"No, really." She continued. "I wouldn't mind. I wanted to stop by there anyway." I felt bad but I didn't want her to think that she was still the boss of me. "Mom, I'm fine. Seriously. Thank you for the offer but I like this dress." The corners of her mouth fell down. "Can you at least give it a try?"
We walked into the dress store down the road that my mother kept talking about. But these dresses weren't even white. This store was crappy enough as it is, but the salesmen were even worse. "See? Isn't this great?" I looked up at her. "Mom," I hushed my voice into a whisper. "This store is worse than the subway. These aren't wedding dresses. I don't want to be here." She raised one eyebrow. "Come on, Sam. This is a good store. Just give it a chance, ok?"
"I'm sorry ma'am. We're closing." I jumped up from the bench on the side of the room. "Yep. you heard that, mom. Let's go." I was so glad to be leaving. I had been sitting there for 2 hours waiting for my mom to finish doing whatever it was that she was doing. "But I had my eye on something." "Mom, come on. We gotta go." I had to drag her out to her car. "Let's go, mom. You need to get back home. My wedding is in less than 48 hours." "But I just want you to have a good dress for the wedding." "How many times do I have to tell you? I have a good dress!"
My mother was right. That dress that was so pretty came to an end real fast. The seem started ripping so I cut it off and the whole dress fell apart. My mom came up to my apartment. "Hey, hon. What's wro-" She looked at my beautiful dress that fell apart in my lap. A tear fell from my eye. "Oh, I'm so sorry!" "Mom, I'm sorry I didn't give you a chance. You were right." she shook her head. "I need a new dress before tomorrow." She kept shaking her head. "No, you don't." "What?" She ran out of the apartment. Maybe she was still half sleeping. About 30 minutes later she came back. There was an identical dress to the ripped one in her hands. There was still a price tag on it. "Mom..." I was speechless. "I don't know what to say...thank you." She smiled.
I was out with my mom again, this time shopping for decorations. "I know this really cool mall down the road from here, it just opened." I told her. "They have everything. I heard it's better than regular malls. I bet they have wedding decorations.". She took a left. "Really? Well, I'd love to go there." I smiled. It was 8:00 in the morning but she still looked like she had been awake for hours. "It's a right from here, and then you drive straight from there until you see a huge silver building." "Ok"
