A shooting star

I sauntered along the streets of Earth, a fallen and beaten Angel. Each night I knelt and prayed before the church's doors. Each night the silence reminded me how far I had fallen.

Each time I outstretched my wings more and more black feathers grew to overtake the once magnificent white shine I had been so proud of.

As I turned my head I could see that only the feathers along the base of my wings still held their glow. In a sense it was beautiful: the border between light and dark. Not only did it remind me of my roots in heaven, but also of the axe that chopped me down.

As I walked from the doors of the grand cathedral a saw a glimmer, a faint star, hurtling across the sky. At first I was caught up in its beauty. It shimmered like a diamond freshly polished.

Before my eyes however, it changed shape so slightly only I could see the difference. This star had wings. Full white wings. Horror filled me as I realized that the star was not a star, but a Angel being thrown from heaven.

By the looks of it, they were not going to make it to Earth as punishment. Without second thought I took a running start, and shot my wings out feeling the cool crisp night air pushing me up, and up until I was soon flying with my wings touching the clouds above me.

I was drawing closer to the free falling soul as I called out to them, awarding no response. Blood pumped in my ears as I feared my speed, as fast as I may be, may not be enough to aid them.

"Angels above, I know not if you hear me, nor if you would listen even if you could, but I beg of you. Help me. He has been cast out before me needs my help, but my absence has made me weak. Grant me speed and winds that will allow me to do this one good deed." My eyes were sewn shut as I prayed again and again. I could feel behind me a gust, or a surge that sped up my flight.

I was within inches of the spiraling mass, their wings covering their face to the point I was still unable to make our their face. With one last surge I tucled my wings in and dove down ten feet and opened them again.

The sudden dive increased my speed and with the angle I flew down I looked up in time to catch the falling body.

I spread my wings behind me as wide as I could to slow speed, but ground raced up to us quickly. I feared my actions had just caused the death of two fallen angels when all of a sudden their wings shot open stopping us almost immediately.

As they did I caught a glimpse of long blonde hair and the shimmer of two vibrant blue eyes.
