Yagyhavi's pov:

The next morning, I woke up and got ready for the day. It was 8:15 AM, and I headed downstairs to have breakfast with my baba before leaving for work.

My shift starts at 9 AM.

Rama aunty, our house helper, was in the kitchen preparing breakfast and lunch for us. "Good morning, aunty," I greeted her as I walked into the kitchen to see what she had prepared.

"Good morning, beta," she replied.

"Give me your tiffin, I'll pack it," she said. I nodded and handed her my tiffin.

While she packed it, I plated the breakfast for both baba and me, then made my way to the dining table, waiting for baba to join me.

After a minute, he arrived, dressed in his formal attire, and sat down.

"Suprobhat, baba," I said as I poured him a cup of tea. "Suprobhat, sona," he replied, picking up the newspaper.

I served him a cup of tea and then served mine.

"Sona, how's your work life going?" Baba suddenly asked, which was unusual because we typically had breakfast in silence, him reading his newspaper and me just eating.

"It's going good, baba. There's a lot of work since the company started a new project with a foreign client, and I've been given the responsibility to handle it."

"As a software developer, I'm the only one involved in that project," I replied, trying to avoid short answers since baba didn't like them.

"Hmmm, I know you'll handle it very well," he said, lifting his eyes from the newspaper to smile at me.

I smiled back and nodded.

"By the way, sona, I think I heard a noise last night in our house. Did you hear it?" Baba asked, and I suddenly choked on my food, and started to cough.

Baba instantly poured a glass of water and handed it to me.

I drank it and then relaxed a bit.

"What kind of noises, baba?" I asked, nervous that he might have seen me sneaking out last night.

"It sounded like someone was coming downstairs. I heard footsteps on the stairs and the noise of a gate opening. But when I came and checked, there was no one and the gate was also locked from inside."

"The light in your room was also off, so you must have been sleeping. Did you hear anything? Or was it just my imagination?" he said.

I looked down, feeling guilty that I'm going to lie to him but I knew that I had no other option.

"Um, no, baba, I didn't hear any noise last night," I replied, avoiding eye contact with him, hoping he didn't notice my discomfort.

Baba nodded slowly, his eyes lingering on me for a moment before returning to his newspaper. I could sense a hint of doubt in his expression, but he didn't press the matter further.

After finishing breakfast, I grabbed my tiffin from Rama aunty and headed out the door, giving Baba a quick hug on my way out.

"See you later, Baba," I called out.

"Have a good day, sona," he replied, still engrossed in his newspaper.

The ride to the office was uneventful, and I found my thoughts drifting back to Samar and the clue I had given him. I couldn't help but wonder if he had figured it out yet.
