The butterfly effect is the idea that small changes can have catastrophic impacts on a complex system. The concept is imagined with a butterfly flapping its wings and causing an event that is likely to have been avoided, but is still cataclysmic.
However, no one dwells on this as they go about their day, why would they? The potential event that follows people and their footsteps holds no relevance because, in the end, it never even happened. Sure, maybe some extremists revel in it, and maybe certain opportunists do too, but how does it affect normal civilians?
You're right. It doesn't. So it doesn't concern a certain Amara Sade when, for the past few days, a blue haired girl she doesn't recognise starts following a similar route home. It's also why she doesn't bat an eyelid at this girl going into the same corner shop, perusing the same aisles and all.
It was no skin off her nose if someone liked walking the same way home. Strangely enough, it had become part of her routine, a slight check across the street to see if the blue haired girl was there. She always was, a few years back. But that was then, when Amara still took those walks home, still had childish feelings and was too young for her own good. She wasn't the same girl anymore: taller and weirder and more freckles on her arms.
Just like how, the one day she starts walking again, the blue haired girl isn't there anymore. That's when things get weird.
