___________"Stop moving it! MOM!! Kuni's moving it!" (Name) yelled in annoyance.
"Kunikuzushi stop moving it!" Their mother, Ei warned. "I'm notttt!"
It was a chilly night, and the two siblings were huddled together over a table in the living room. Sitting across from each other, the pair rested their fingers on the small planchette of an ouija board.
"Hold on I gotta write this down" (Name) said pulling out a small notepad and a pen.
Kuni raised an eyebrow at his sister before she spoke again.
"Mom wrote in her book that everyone has a soulmate," (Name) said, holding up a book published by the Yae Publishing House. "This way I'll know their name. The one I'm supposed to wait for, and the one who'll wait for me." she sighed dreamily.
The siblings watched as the planchette moved across the board, and (Name) stopped every now and then to write the letters on her notepad.
"But, (nickname), what if this person lived a billion trillion years ago? Like what if they're Khaenri'ahn and now they're dead?" Kuni asked his sister.
"Don't be stupid Kuni" (Name) scoffed, "Soulmates are our destiny, they live when we live"
"Well what if they live here in Inazuma. And one day you just pass them on the street and you wouldn't even know??" He prodded farther.
"It couldn't happen Kuni, I would know. Like, how whopperflowers know how to make nectar" (Name) said.
"And you'll know too, 'cause you have one. We all do."
Kunikuzushi just shook his head at his sister's antics, still with their fingers on the moving planchette. The piece glided towards one final letter I on the board.
"Look" Kuni pointed at his sister's notepad, as she hurriedly wrote the fated name.
She stared at the name in awe, lifting the notepad to meet her eyes.
"Zhongli" she whispered the name as if it were a secret only she knew about.
The moon shone brightly over the Inazuma sky, and a gust of wind entered the living room. Curtains danced across the windows, and a few lit candles went out.
"My other half" (Name) breathed out, feeling the air around her.
"My soulmate."
___________
(Name) and her group of friends were walking through a fair being held in the city. The smell of fair food wafted through the air as the preteen girls giggle and talk amongst themselves.
The group found themselves standing outside a fortune teller booth, curious to know what their fortunes are.
"She wants to know if she wants to marry Itto" Yoimiya said teasingly.
"I do not! He doesn't even have a brain!" Sara retaliated, her ears tinted pink.
"But he's got pretty eyes, that means your kids would have pretty eyes. He can get a brain later" the blonde shrugged. "What do you think, (Name)?"
"Well the most important thing is true love, right Mona?" (Name) looked to her pigtailed friend.
"LOOK OUT BELOW!!" A voice from the ferris wheel above them yelled.
The girls screamed as a water balloon hit the ground with a large splash, drenching (Name)'s friend.
"SCARA I HATE YOU!!" Mona yelled at the boy above them, who was laughing along with his friends.
The girls all went back to chatting, when a woman dressed in a purple witch hat poked her head out of the booth, signaling the next person to come in.
(Name) stepped into the dimly lit room, a crystal ball rested on a table, and (Name) took her seat across the woman.
"So what destiny do you wish for from Madame Lisa?" The woman asked in a sultry voice.
"Um.. just basic destiny stuff I guess" (Name) answered, "But I don't wanna hear anything bad if that's okay"
The woman smiled and nodded at the girl as she began swirling her hands around the crystal ball.
(Name) watched in anticipation as Madame Lisa looked into the orb, quiet chants leaving her lips.
The woman paused, eyes squinting into the ball's void. "Something's coming to me" she said.
"I'm getting a name. A name that is very important" she added. "Zongmeng? No.."
"Zhongli" she said, looking to (Name)'s eyes.
(Name)'s eyes widened before she spoke "Oh my God."
The girl got up immediately, gasping as she was excited to tell her friends her fortune. But before she could leave, Madame Lisa pulled her by the arm.
"Your destiny is 200 mora, cutie" she said.
(Name) sheepishly smiled as she fished 200 mora from her wallet before handing it to the mage.
As (Name) was about to take her leave, Madame Lisa pulled on her arm again, and brought her close.
She looked into the young girl's eyes before speaking, "The truth is, you make your own destiny, understand?"
"Don't wait for it to come to you"
