~Chapter One~

Jinny's POV

I sighed as I gave my last customer of the day his latte and pastry. Finally my shift is over! I was forced by my meathead of a boss to work two shifts because my coworker had called in sick. It was now 10 pm and I had been working since 9 am. I took off my dark green apron and put on my black leather jacket. After clocking out, I walked out the back door. The worst part of working late was going home. I haven't gotten a car yet, so I had to walk home alone in the dark. Fortunately, the coffee shop I work at is in the nicer part of New York City.

The wind was blowing, so I zipped up my coat and pulled up the hood. I then looked across the busy street at the sports center building. It was mostly used to hold large concerts now. There must have been a concert tonight, because the parking lot was crowded with screaming girls. I saw five figures walk out of the building. They were five guys, and they seemed to be the cause of the fangirling.

'Hmm, must be some popular boy band' I thought to myself. I don't get why girls went so crazy after these guys. I mean, there people too! Yes they are talented, but I don't think they like to be screamed at.

The group of boys hurried into a large black van and sped away. I looked at all the fans still crowding the area. There signs said things like "SHINee", "SHINee's back", and "I love you oppa".

Oppa? They must be a Korean boy group. I know this because both my parents are Korean, so I am fluent in the language. My real name is actually Soo Hyo Jin, but I took on the more western version of my name, Jinny.

Anyway, so this group was called SHINee? What an odd name. I'm not into k-pop, even though I like most of Korea's culture. I just never got into it. They must be a pretty famous group, judging by how many people were at that concert.

It was then that I realized that I was standing in the middle of the sidewalk. A man that was walking by bumped my shoulder with his, causing me to lose balance. I stumbled and fell into a large puddle. I started yelling profanities at the older man, who simply spit and walked away. I cursed under my breath, wondering if this day could get any worse. My question was answered went a car drove by and splashed more of the puddle onto my face.

As I walked down the hall of the apartment complex I lived in, I could hear my shoes squeaking obnoxiously from them being drenched, along with the rest of my body. When I got to door 276, I fumbled around in my coat pocket and finally pulled out the key. I slid the key into the scanner, unlocking the door. It took me a few tries to open the door because I couldn't get a grip on the handle with my wet hands.

After multiple tries, I was finally able to open the stupid door. I stepped inside and turned on a few lights. I looked around and realized how drab my apartment was. A living room with a small flat screen and a brown leather couch. Next to it was a white kitchen with only your basic appliances. Down the hall there was my room, painted light green with a queen bed covered in black comforters and white pillows. Beside it was a white wood desk holding my laptop, and a black dresser with all my clothing in it. I didn't use my closet because I didn't want to move what was in there already. Across the hall is my bathroom, where everything was a blinding white color. I really need to redecorate.

"Ugh, I feel gross" I said while trying to ring out my hair again. I stepped into my bathroom and looked at myself in the mirror. I was really a mess. My long brown-black hair was wet and clinging to my head, and my makeup was smeared so I looked like a raccoon.

I stripped out of my wet clothing and hung it over a towel rod to dry. After turning on the radio sitting on my counter, I stepped under the running water of my shower. As I was washing my hair, When I Was Your Man by Bruno Mars came on. I started singing along to the emotional words.

I felt more water streaming down my face, and I realized that they were tears. I became frustrated.

"Ugh, why are you crying? Stop thinking about it! He doesn't deserve your tears!" I yelled at myself. As the days went by, it became harder and harder to push the memories into the back of my head.

Yet I shoved my emotions away again, and stepped out of the shower. I put a towel around my head and one around my body before walking into my room. I saw the glow of my laptop screen, indicating that I had a new message.

I sat down at the comfortable chair and clicked on my email icon. Yay! I got a message from June! June was a girl I met when I went to visit my grandparents in Korea for the first time, which was about three years ago. We instantly became best friends, and have kept in touch ever since. She was and eccentric girl that loved science and astronomy.

June: Hey~! Just checking in to see how you are. You need to come visit again soon, cuz I miss you~~~!!! I haven't seen you in eight months, since the last time you visited Soeul! I started university, and I'm really proud to say that I'm shooting for a master's degree in astrophysics!

Anyway, I know your not into this, but have you heard news about SHINee's tour? I heard that they would be performing near you! Anyway, answer when you can, and visit soon~~~~~!!!!!

Love ya- June

I clicked out of my email. I will answer her tomorrow. Wow, I can't believe she started university already. I haven't started yet because I was hoping my singing and dancing career would take off in New York. Unfortunately, I takes more work than I thought. I've been here for almost a year, auditioned for many companies, but I was never called back. Hopefully I'll get an offer soon.

The last part of her message caught my eye. She knows SHINee? I know that she is into k-pop but I didn't think she would be up to date on where their concerts were. I should really find out who these guys are.

I logged onto the Internet, and searched their name. So many choices came up, more than I thought. They must be really popular! I clicked on a simple description.

"SHINee is a South Korean contemporary R&B boy group formed in 2008 under the management of SM Entertainment. The group consists of Onew, Taemin, Jonghyun, Key, and Minho. There debut single was titled 'Replay'."

'Hmm, seems like a pretty typical boy group' I thought to myself. I then clicked on a picture of them.

The one on the far left was medium height with light brown-redish hair cut in a pretty regular fashion. He had a cute, squishy looking face. The next boy was slightly taller and had dark brown-black hair that was layered and styled up. He looked rather young, but had good facial structure. The one in the middle was short, and his hair was blondish with dark roots. He had very high cheekbones. Next was a boy with medium height and blonde hair cut straight across his face in a bang. He had very catlike eyes. Lastly, the tallest member had plain black hair, but it suited him. He had huge eyes, and his stare gave off a wave of charisma. Wow, these boys were more than I expected.

I realized I hadn't gotten dressed yet, so I dropped my towels and got dressed. My pajamas consisted of a grey tanktop under and old sweatshirt, and plaid flannel pants that were a few inches too long and decorated with monkeys. I walked back into my bathroom and took about ten minutes drying my hair. I looked at the clock, and noticed that it was 11:30. I should get to sleep because it's going to be another long day tomorrow. I stomped back into my room.

I crawled into bed and pulled the covers up to my chin. I wonder how long SHINee will be here. Ah, they probably left already. Off to somewhere else in the world for their tour. They are more famous than I thought. No wonder there were to many people crowding the building they performed in.

As I slipped off into dreamland, I thought of what it would be like to meet this shining idol group.
