Maxine's POV~

I woke up the next morning to the sound of my alarm. I unlocked my phone and turned it off. I took in my surroundings, remembering that I was at Johnson's house. I got out of the bed and opened the door, Johnson was there.

"Hey, I just came to see if you were up," he said awkwardly.

"Well, I am. I just need to take a shower," I said.

"Yeah, sure. Let me just go get some of my moms shampoo and conditioner," he said.

"Wait," I said as I grabbed his wrist.

"Yeah?," he asked.

"I don't have any spare clothes," I said.

"I've got you, don't worry," he smiled.

He walked away and I sat back down on the bed to wait for him. He soon came back with all the things I needed to shower and some clothes.

"It's all there," he said.

"Even underwear?," I asked, kind of shocked.

"Yeah," he said, blushing a little.

I grabbed the dress.

"Where'd you get this?," I asked.

"My cousin comes and visits every once in a while and she left this stuff behind," he told me.

"Oh. Okay, thanks," I said.

He showed me to the bathroom and I showered. I washed my hair first, then braided it so when I was done and getting ready to head to school, I could take it out and have nice waves. Then, I finished up my shower. I brushed my hair and teeth. After that, I got dressed. The dress was strapless, but I had a bandeau on, so lucky me. I wasn't use to wearing dresses. I only ever wore jeans and shirts. But, whatever. After that, I went back to the guest room. I put on my vans and covered up my cuts with concealer. The dress went to just above my knee. Again, not use to this. Anyway, I packed up my bag and then looked in the mirror.

"This is my crappy life," I sighed.

I opened the door. Johnson was waiting at the top of the stairs.

"Ready?," he asked.

"I guess," I said.

"Bye mom!," he exclaimed.

"Bye kids!," she exclaimed.

We left.

"Wait, I need to make a quick stop at my house," I said.

"Are you sure?," he asked.

"Yeah, I'm just gonna drop off my clothes and grab some shorts to put on under this," I said, gesturing to my dress.

"Okay," he sighed.

We went over to my house.

"Hoist me up," I told him.

He helped me grab hold of the railing and I pulled myself up. I quietly opened the door. I grabbed some shorts and slipped them on. Then, I threw my clothes in my laundry basket. I took out my braid and fixed my hair. The waves came out perfectly. I closed the door and then climbed over the railing. As Johnson was helping me down, the front door opened.

"Hey!," the step-monster yelled.

"Run," I told Johnson.

He grabbed hold of my hand and we took off.

"GET BACK HERE!," the step-monster yelled again.

I don't think he chased after us, but we were too fast for him anyways. We stopped running when we knew he wasn't chasing us.
