30 minutes later.

"Hey. You called?"

"Get in here." I said pulling her in the house, closing the door behind me.

"So I brought Tito's and pink Whitney and monopoly." Maya said walking into the kitchen with a big bag in her hand.

"Give me the Tito's and I'll set the game up. I'm the banker. You cheat." I said laughing.

"Hey! First off I'm not a cheater you just suck. Second I'm the dog." She says pouring alcohol in red solos and sitting down on the floor by the coffee table.

"Thanks." I said, grabbing my cup. "This is my type of distraction."

"Mhm. Want to tell me what exactly I'm distracting you from? Because from what I see, you haven't even started the paintings." Maya said, rolling the die.

I chuckle and scratch the back of my neck. "Uh yeah. After the diner I took Autumn to Haven." Maya looked at me with a look to continue as she moved her piece. "And we were having a great time. Laughing, joking. And then we got on the Ferris wheel." She looked at me when I stopped.

"Ok, and?"

"We kissed. Not just a peck either like a real kiss Maya." Her eyes went wide.

"Well that doesn't seem totally bad. I mean you were in the moment. It happens. I'm not fully understanding the issue though." Her brows furrowed.

"Well I made dinner for Autumn and mom and well mom kinda made it awkward." I said with a furrowed eyebrow.

Maya tilted her head. "Awkward how? I'm taking the railroad."

"She brought up Kayla, while Autumn was sitting right at the table." I say rolling for my turn. "I'm taking the hotel."

"Well why'd she do that? Does she not like Kayla?"

I shook my head. "Uh she's mad that I was flirting with Autumn."

That stopped Maya from drinking and stared at me. "You were what? Look V, I understand the kiss. It's Romantic and cute. But flirting, especially in front of Miranda? You actually like her. You tried to play it off at the diner."

"I don't know. It's just natural. And with her it feels automatic. Like there's nothing about her I can't fall for."

"Ava. I love you so I'm going to say this one time and one time only and hopefully it gets through your head." She said getting off the floor and sitting beside me on the couch. "That woman in that house is now-" she checked her phone. "4 days out of an abusive relationship with her boyfriend who you just came in contact with not even 24 hours ago. She's cute and cool. But she's in a vulnerable position right now. She can't have you and your emotional unavailability fucking her head up more."

I drop my head and exhale deep. "So I'm a bad person for liking someone just because they're going through something?"

Maya shook her head and grabbed my face. "You Ava Montez are not a bad person. It's just not the right time. You may not feel or see it this way but in a way her emotions could take play in this." I brought my eyes to her in confusion. What's she trying to say? "I'm saying because you're a good person that it isn't right. She may just need a good person. Need the love and care she wasn't getting all those years. You have to be careful. Not just for her but for you too. You kissed, that's it. Don't let it go too far. Not yet V atleast."

I dropped my eyes again and then nodded my head. She's right. She needs a friend not a girlfriend. "You're right Maya."

She taps my leg and then slides back on the floor. "I know I am. Now that we got the problem out of the way...let's get to the distraction part." She said pouring more alcohol in my cup and guiding it to my mouth. "Good girl."
