Emily and Indy rushed across the quickly collapsing floor as lava burst through, melting the stones, sending others flying like bullets and slingshots. The strange throne guardian devourer worm pursued them screaming.

They raced toward the stairs at the far end of the apkallu's throne room. She jumped onto the first step, Indy beside her. They were narrow black stone stairs. "These have to be the back door into the temple top area!" Emily yelled over the chaos below them.

"Temple of Doom had backdoor stairs like this too!" Indy replied. "Helped the priests show up mysteriously in command during their rituals." He glanced over the edge. "Lake of fire..."

"Just like hell... where the destroyer and worm go to live," Emily swallowed. "Didn't think it would be a location on earth -"

"We're under the earth, Em. The realm of the dead."

"But we're not staying here, Dad."

"Hell, no, Littlest Artifact."

The devourer worm lunged from the lava lake of fire.

Indy jumped out of the way, pinning Emily against the wall trying to shield her.

The worm opened its mouth - revealing saw blade teeth in a circular pattern.

Indy grabbed his pistol, firing.

Emily stepped forward trying to fight it with a sword.

It lunged for them.

Indy shoved Emily to side, trying to protect her. She fell, as Indy stood face to face with the roaring devouring wicked throne guardian worm.

Suddenly something yanked it back.

Indy shut his eyes, searching the supernatural and the unseen realm.... And recognized something familiar. Something from the Ark of the Covenant. "Holy hell... it's chained!"

Emily scrambled to her feet.

"Stay back, Em!" Indy ordered, staring into the supernatural. Then he said to the worm, grinning in fury, "That's right, you bastard spirit. You know where I've been. And you and I both know what's inside the Ark of the Covenant. And I'm damned sure that spirit that devoured the Nazis is what put that chain on your neck."

"Dad?" Emily asked.

Indy was staring into the supernatural, speaking a strange ancient language. "Mene. Mene. Tekel. Upharsin. Your days are numbered. You have been weighed in the balance and found lacking. Your kingdom is divided. Time is running out... Abaddon. You won't win."
