Ever wonder where those people go? The ones that just disappear, I mean. You know, the ones that get shot or taken but their bodies were never found. Well, they don't end up in a nice, classy place that's for one. How would I know? Because I was one of them.
I was born Shay Corbachio in New York City and raised in Duex county Georgia. We moved back to New York so I could go to high school. It honestly wasn't that bad. Made some really cool friends & I met the love of my life there too. I know what you're thinking-how could a 16 year old know when she's in love?-well I didn't know I was at the time. But he was the first man to ever show me love. His name was Kelson DeLaLuz.
MCSM (Manhattan Center for Science and Math) was one of the best schools at the time. Life was like a rollercoaster in those halls. Not a day went by that didn't leave you questioning whether or not you're normal. It was October of my junior year & I was ready for some fun.
"I don't want to go to chemistry, Kel. Please don't make me." I hated my chemistry teacher with a passion. But I always had the best grades out of all his students. "Shay, baby I love you to death but we have to go to class." Kelson was a sweetheart with a mean attitude for grades. He didn't let me skip any classes. Especially the few we shared.
I crossed my arms in front of me, and frowned. He hated seeing me upset. "Awe, don't give me that look. You're going to class." He kissed me on my forehead and I was putty in his hands.
"Alright! Fine I'll go. But it's just to make you happy." I just couldn't argue with those beautiful blue-grey green eyes of his. They were like kryptonite to me. And his curly light brown locks & that silky sweet voice didn't help. Kel's next class was all the way in the opposite direction of where he was going. You'd think that in his second year he would know his way around his own school. "Uhh, Kel..."
"Yeess my darling?" I couldn't help but snicker & shake my head. "You're going in the wrong direction." His face went red & pale. I had to bite my lip to keep from laughing. It didn't help that we we're both nerds. But I always enjoyed sports better.
He dropped me off by my class & I kissed him lighty on his cheek. He gave me a half smile & spun around on his heel. Next thing you know he was halfway down the hall. I turned to open the door, ready for Hell. I walked into the room & the first thing I see is half the class asleep in the back. Mr.Ghandi was in the middle of his rant about actinide, before I caught his attention. "Ms.Corbachio, how nice of you to finally join us." "Sorry, I'm late Mr. Ghandi. But my little brother wasn't exactly 'excited' about school at 7:30..." I'm not a liar, but this was far from the truth. "I don't need to hear your family stories ms.Corbachio, just please take your seat." I nodded my head & went over to the empty seat by the window. I couldn't stand being in class, so I sat by the windows. I wanted to be outside away from all the craziness & chaos. I never enjoyed being inside. I started to zone out when Josh, my stupid lab partner decided to mix all the chemicals together. Out of all the kids in class I had to be stuck with an idiot that didn't know the difference between two & too. "You're an idiot. You want to kill us, don't you?" I went up to the front to get new ingredients. when I came back he was trying to light the flame under the beaker. "Josh you can't do that! You put too many chemicals in." I pulled his hand and on when the fire. I went to turn it off but the beaker broke and the liquid splattered all over myself & my friend Eva.
My eyes were closed as not to let the liquid in, so I could only hear what was happening. Eva was right next to me & she immediately started to panick and cry. "EWWW!!! GET IT OFF ME!!!" She was flailing her arms. I was trying my hardest not to open my mouth & start yelling. I was grabbed at the wrist and pulled under what I guess was the chemical bath. I felt the liquid crawling down my skin. It felt like it was seeping into my veins. I started scrubbing my face and my arms. I wanted the bubbling black gunk off. The water shut off after I was done & someone handed me a towel to dry my face. "Thank you." I said into the towel. "No problem. Are you okay?" I knew that voice. I looked up from the now soaked towel & glared at my best friend Tereak.
He was laughing on the inside, I looked down at my shirt, my favorite white shirt with my favorite band Sleeping with Sirens label on the chest. it was drenched & covered in black stains. I throw the towel at him & waited until Eva was finished to go with her to change. Lucky for us, this was our last class.
Eva was upset. I could hear her crying in the stall next to me. I wasn't as emotionally charged like she was. But I was one to catch a major attitude when I was pissed, but I didn't want to get suspended. Being with Kelson actually helped me to control it. "Eva please stop crying." I couldn't take the sobs anymore. I didn't like the situation either. "Why aren't you crying? That's your favorite shirt and it's ruined." She said coming out of the stall. I looked at the shirt on the window and she wasn't lying. But it didn't matter. I could always buy another one.
There was a knock at the door. "Shay," "you guys alive in there?" It was Kelson & Tereak. I fixed my hair which had now gone back to a tangled mess of brown & red curls. and looked at myself in the mirror. I wasn't the prettiest girl in the school but I was good enough for Kelson. We stepped out and I was greeted with a tight hug and laughing.
"Why are y'all laughing?" I punched Kel in the shoulder lightly. "Because Tereak just told me what happened." I raised an eyebrow and ignored it. I took my bag from him and went to the Love Cafe across the street. Kel grabbed my jacket which slowed me down. I spun around to see the guilt on his face. "I'm sorry my love. Tell you what, lets go to my house & you can get me back for kicking your butt in GTA?" He knows I hate racing games. "No, this time we're playing Mortal Kombat." I loved that game. "Okay as long as you don't stay mad at me." He took my hand and rubbed his lip on it before kissing it. I pretend to be amused
His house was more of a home to than my house. No one yelled or argued and I loved the calm. We grabbed some snacks from the fridge and went up to his room to play. I sat down on his bed & didn't complain when he started complaining about his teachers. "sweetie, I got a chemical bath & I had to walk around in a wet shirt. I just want to relax."
"Okay, let's just play a game & relax for a little." he leaned in and kissed my forehead. I was grateful for that. We played for what seemed like hours. Luckily for me, it was the weekend & our parents had let me sleep over. I enjoyed his company. His warm touch on my skin comforted me & his sweet scent made the world disappear from my eyes.
I was awoken by the sound of pots banging. I sat up & noticed the empty space Kelson was the night before. I got up & wrapped the blanket around me. "Kel, sweetie what are you doing?" I knew he wasn't much of an OCD person but I was curious as to what he was trying to do.
"Oh, morning. I was just trying to make you some breakfast. You always make some for me, and I thought I should give you a break."
