I felt weak. My small crow body weighing heavy as I fall out of the sky, plummetting to my death.
Just as I was to hit the ground, someone's hands caught me, holding me to their chest tightly. I caw softly, too weak to even move and fight.
"Hey, little bird. It's okay, I've got you." A deep, male voice speaks, gently stroking my feathers. A spicy cinnamon smell, with a hint of mint, assaults my nose, making me relax and feel safe in the guys warm arms.
I pass out, the events of the past two minutes making me tired.
...
I wake up slowly, feeling warm and cozy. Looking around, I noticed in I'm in a big room. I was laying on a purple, plush cushion. The wallpaper was a sage green, gold details lining the walls. The ceiling was high up and held a shiny chandelier, the jewels shining in the light.
My eyes stare at it, drawing me over.
I hop up, taking a few test flaps before flying to the shiny chandelier, perching on one of the metal legs jutting out.
I caw happily, hopping from leg to leg, playing with the hanging jewels.
"Looks like someone is up and full of energy." The voice that caught me from earlier chuckles, alerting me of the new presence in the room.
I let out a shocked skwak and look down, seeing the most handsome guy ever. His skin was a caramel brown as he stands there, dark brown eyes that can stare into your soul, and the most pretty and straight platinum white hair. His height was 6"1 and he was fit. He was smiling up at me, watching me play on the most likely expensive chandelier.
I watch him intently, wondering why my mind was calling me towards him, beaconing me to go to him. It was like an instinct to go see him, my mind telling me he was safe.
The man kept watching me, never losing the soft smile on his face. "Little bird, are you hungry? I have berries for you." He calls in a servant who scurries in and quickly sets a platter down, then hurries out, only sparing me a cold glance. "Here you are." He opens the platter, showing me the platter piled high with all kinds of berries.
I take a moments hesitation before swooping down next to him and the platter, pecking for strawberry. I caw in thanks, finishing the berry before going for the pear.
He just watches me eat, grinning. "I know you can turn human, little bird. Why don't you shift and we can talk?"
I freeze for a second before coming to a conclusion that he was safe. I hopped back a little, turning into my human form. I was a short guy, at the height of 5"4, and had many freckles. My hair was as midnight black as my feathers, having a shiny gleam to them and being curly. My eyes were a dark green, having brown freckles in them, my skin being a fair pale color.
"Wow.. You look gorgeous." He says breathlessly, blushing.
Looking down shyly, I blush as well. "Thank you. You're not so bad yourself." I slightly smirk.
Shaking out of his stupor, he hurriedly holds out his hand. "Hello, I'm Stephan. What's your name, little bird?" He gently asks me.
"My name is Altair. It's nice to meet you. Thank you for the berries." I shake his hand, a nice tingle going throughout my body, making me melt.
"Of course, little bird. Why don't you finish eating, then we'll talk?" He suggests. I nod and keep eating the fruit, finishing a few minutes later in comfortable silence.
"So, what is it you want to talk to me about, Stephan?" I curiously ask, looking him in the eyes.
He smiles. "If you couldn't tell, Altair, you're my mate. I am a werewolf, and Alpha of this town." He explains. "I am of the highest status as king and the houses out there are my subjects. We are a town of many species, from humans to fairies."
I listen intently, feeling happy at the sound of his deep and soothing voice.
"Now, what I want to know, is how you got here. It's not that I'm happy, I'm just worried, since the first meeting I had with you was you falling out of the sky." My eyes darkened slightly, looking down.
"Well, I'll be honest. I'm a runaway fugitive." I hurry out, tensing as I await his reaction.
He hums in thought, looking over me. "What did you do, little bird?" He asks calmly, waiting for my side of the story before judging.
"I, well, I guess I refused the courting of my own alpha back home. He wanted me to be his mate, as his mate died years ago, but I refused. He pulled a move, and I attacked. Now, he's hunting me down." I told him, scowling. My alpha was a huge dick and he was egotistical.
Looking up, I noticed Stephan having a dark look on his face. "Really? Well, you're safe now. Stay with me, I'll take care of you." He pleads, holding my hand and kissing the palm of it sweetly.
I blush and look away, biting my lip. "I don't know. I don't want to intrude and be a burden.." I worry to him.
He chuckles softly and smiles at me warmly. "Nonsense. You're my mate and I insist on taking care of you. It'd be an honor to have you at my side until your ready to mate with me."
I think for a while before grinning widely, hugging him. "Then, I'll stay with you, if you'll be okay with that."
He nods and hugs me back, surrounding me in his minty cinnamon scent, making me feel safe and warm, like I was meant to be in his arms.
"Thank you for agreeing, Altair." He mumbles into my hair, smiling softly.
Pulling away hesitantly, I look up at him. "So, what do we do now? What's the next step?" I shyly smile at him.
He grins downs at me, his eyes crinkling in the corners.
"I think you take a few days to get accustomed here. Then, I'll introduce you to my people as my mate." He blushes slightly.
Looking away, I mumble shyly. "Are you sure? What if they don't accept me? Their alpha should mate with a pretty woman, not a crow that is symbolized to bring death.."
Taking my chin in his thumb and pointer finger, he forces my head gently to look at him. He gazes deeply into my eyes, his expression serious.
"Altair, I never want you to think like that again. These are my people and I'm their alpha. You never have to worry about not accepting you, because if your my mate, that automatically makes you their luna. No reason in the world will make me mate with somemoe other than you, so don't even let those dark clouds cover your mind."
He leans down and sweetly kisses my lips. His were strong and hard, a lovely contrast to my soft and full lips. "You're my mate. My partner for life. I could never love another as much as I love you. Never fear me going to another when I have you."
