𝐟𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐡𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐤...Kaelani finally decided to leave her room, since she was now hungry.
"Ma!" Kaelani hollered down the hallway, her voice bouncing off the peeling wallpaper. "Im hungry, anything to eat?"
"I just cooked, the foods finished" Her mother's distant voice floated back from the kitchen, mixing with the clatter of dishes.
"What? I haven't eaten all day!" kaelani scowled.
She felt as her family would always forget about her.
"You should've woken up earlier then," her mother replied casually.
"I wasnt even fucking sleeping ma" she argued.
Frustration simmered in Kaelani's chest She stomped down the narrow hallway.
Her mother stood at the sink, scrubbing a stubborn stain off a plate, seemingly oblivious to Kaelani's annoyance.
"Well i thought you were sleeping," her mother said, her tone tinged with annoyance.
"Well I wasn't!" Kaelani shot back, her voice rising. "How am I supposed to know when you cooked?"
Before her mother could reply, Kaelani's younger brother malik bounded into the kitchen, his face still flushed from running around outside. "Hey Kae, wanna play some ball?"
Kaelani's irritation boiled over. "Leave me alone!" She shoved him hard, sending Malik stumbling back into the hallway, his eyes wide with shock and hurt.
"Kaelani!" Her mother's voice rang out sharply. "Don't you dare talk to your brother like that!"
Kaelani's chest heaved with anger.
She had really bad anger issues and some more, her mother never looked into it though.
She clenched her fists, fighting the urge to lash out further.
Malik stared at her, his lower lip trembling.
Without a word, she turned and ran out of the apartment, slamming the door behind her with a resounding bang that echoed through the corridor.
Outside, the streets of Harlem greeted her with their familiar chaos.
Kaelani stormed down the sidewalk, her slides pounding against the pavement.
Tears of frustration threatened to spill down her cheeks, but she blinked them away.
She found herself at the park, she walked past the swings and jungle gym going straight to a bench.
Finally, she collapsed onto a weathered wooden bench, the weight of her emotions heavy on her chest.
Minutes passed in tense silence until Kaelani heard footsteps approaching.
She looked up sharply to see two girls and three boys walking towards her.
Tiara and Miley led the group, their smirks instantly setting Kaelani on edge.
She knew them well – they were girls from school who constantly tried to bully her.
Kaelani though never let them and they'd clashed in more than a few fights.
She'd come out on top every time, sending tiara and miley home with bloody noses or really bad headaches.
But they just never stopped, as if they liked getting hurt.
"What?" Kaelani stood up, her fists clenched, already on high alert.
Tiara, with her defiant smirk, stepped forward.
