Chance~
"I don't understand why she's so upset with me for going to a party. I'm the one that should still be upset for being lied to."
"Chance... You not only snuck out but you failed to mention that it was a college party. Plus the drinking? I think you went too far." Akira closed her eyes as she floated in the pool.
"You didn't tell Ms. Megan that it was a college party."
"Yeah and I got in trouble for that, but she at least gave me permission to go."
"I said sneaking out was a bad idea. You decided we'd be okay."
"You know better than to listen to me. Besides, your mom will get over it in a week."
Chance sucked her teeth, "She's not going to get over it no time soon. I got a lecture from both her and my dad. Do you know how mad she has to be to call my dad? It's like she's suffocating me. I get being protective but at some point she has to back up and let me do my own thing. I turn 16 in January, what will she say then?"
"16 isn't 18 or 21. Until you reach the legal age and you're able to move out, aka go to college, she'll always be suffocating." Akira swam to the edge of the pool to talk closer with Chance. "Ms. Normani's nice though, I'm sure she'd understand when you just let her know that you're getting older and need some space."
"Is that what you did with Ms. Megan?"
"Hell no. My birth mom pretty much ran things when she were alive. I got to do what I wanted, when I wanted as long as I did everything I was supposed to do per her rules. My mom knows she can't control me now, I'll only ignore her and do what I want."
"I can't do that. My mom would kill me."
"Oh I know, but at the least you could have a chat with her. She'll listen."
"I'll think about it."
"Enough about our parents for now," Akira got out of the pool and sat next to Chance on the edge, "are you friends with Jaylin?"
"Jaylin? Your crush Jaylin?"
"No... Girl Jaylin."
"Ohhhh! No, not really. Why do you ask?"
Akira shrugged and kicked her feet in the water. "I just couldn't help but notice her staring at you in class yesterday... Any history?"
"Ugh," Chance threw her head back with a groan, "don't get me started on her. She's had a crush on me since middle school and I don't have the heart to keep telling her I don't like girls. She's gorgeous, don't get me wrong, but one thing I know for sure is my sexuality."
"So she does like girls? She's confirmed this?"
"She didn't have to. In middle school, she dressed like a stud and most people teased her for it, but she's tough to crack and she didn't really care what most had to say about her. Once we got to Highschool, she stopped the masculinity ride and went back to being all feminine. No one really questioned it and now no one cares." Chance shrugged.
"You think she's dating someone?"
"Last I heard she was going out with Paige, but that could've changed. Why are you asking?"
"Just wanted to know."
"You must think she's cute or something?"
"Well she's very pretty." Akira nervously bit her lip and looked down at her feet. She could feel the smile getting ready to creep onto her face and tried her best to hide it.
Chance looked over at her friend confusingly before gasping, "you like her don't you!?"
"Tell the world, why don't you Chance?" Akira rolled her eyes, "and to be clear... I wouldn't say I like her, but she is cute. I really don't know what or who I like."
