My version of Bruce taking in Turner. Inspired by the opening scene of Batman Beyond

Bruce knew his age was catching up with him. That no matter the suit, it would be harder and harder to continue. He knew one day Batman would die, he could die fighting. He thought it'd be worth it, a good death.  He didn't think everything he stood for would die like this. He lost his innocence to a gun, he broke his spirit using one himself.

Against Henri Ducard's prize pupils and their surprise of a hostage.  He had no choice but to push the gun.  Picking up the firearm and firing. In another world, things weren't as bad, he didn't pull the trigger and didn't orphan someone out in Burnside. This wasn't that world.

The recoil was nothing to his revulsion. Hatred of what he did. Firing twice killed them both. He sent a silent message to the GCPD to take care of the aftermath. And returned to the cave to remove the cowl for the final time.

He spent days sitting in the cave, learning about the couple becoming aware of their son. For his entire career of being the Dark Knight, he suffered and moved on, but this was a living hell.  The revelation of Turmer Hayes existing haunted Bruce Wayne. Forcing him to check on the boy.

A boy living in the slums unaware of his parents' fate and occupation.  The guilt grew worse when he thought of what could happen to an orphan growing up on Gotham. He took him in to try and provide a normal privileged life. He made it clear that he'd never replace the Turner's parents.  Knowing that someday Ducard and his men could come for Turner, he trained him. Not to be a vigilante but to survive in the worst-case scenarios.  Putting in all the attention and knowledge he could.  Some training sessions he disguised as games. He was present for Turner every second he could.

Until his dying breath, and he triggered code black.  Destroying the  cave, triggering the cache he left behind in Turner's hideout at Gotham Academy's clock tower.  The supplies, weapons,  and his own journals. To give Turner the whole story without anyone's interference.  And the possibility to leave Gotham whenever he wanted with arranged travel.

Hoping that he provided his son with enough and light to survive Gotham's darkness. That he'd have friends alongside him, willing to fight with him. And hoped his son could forgive him one day.
