2 days before thanksgivingthe month went on and you and connie's relationship improved as if he hadn't asked you about your ex. but you had become so engulfed in making sure things were right for the thanksgiving holiday, you had nearly forgotten about the fact that your birthday was on thanksgiving. it took tia to remind you.
"my wife's birthday coming up~" she sang from the other side of the phone all loud.
"i forgot lowkey. y'know i'm tryna get everything together for thursday."
"which is also your birthday?? you need to get your hair or nails done or something. i'll send you—"
"nope. you bout to have a baby, save as much money as you can." you heard the cash app sound come through your phone anyway. "tia."
"yknow i don't listen." you rolled your eyes but thanked her. "you talk to connie yet?"
"yeah he's helping his mom with things for thursday. his dad is supposed to be flying in but i don't know." you shrugged. you knew that if his dad was coming, he would probably want him to meet you so that kinda made your nervous.
"what, he a deadbeat?"
"tia."
"what? just asking. or you don't know a lot about him?"
you shook your head. "nah, i only know that's he's coming in from puerto rico." tia nodded in understanding. "what you doing for thanksgiving? going to kaden's?"
"yeah we're all going to his house because it's bigger. our parents talked about it already. plus it gets everybody used to combining families for the baby."
"aww look at yall~starting off right."
"shut up." tia giggled. the conversation continued for a few more minutes before tia hung up and there was a knock on your door.
"come in..."
"happy birthday to yo—" jean came in singing with a to-go plate of food, knowing how much you loved it.
"it's not my birthday yet, dumbass. what is this?"
"something makayla cooked. she's thinking about bringing it for thanksgiving. let me know how you like it." he gave you a fork and stood there, watching you eat it. you really liked it but jean didn't really say exactly what it was.
"shit buss, but what is it exactly?"
"some kind of casserole, i forgot what she said." you rolled your eyes and closed the plate, giving it back to him. "you don't like it?"
"i like it, i'm just not that hungry right now."
"right...you working today?"
"no, i took off today, tomorrow, and thanksgiving but i go back after thursday. you?"
"hell no, they gave us the week off." you rolled your eyes.
"must be nice..." after that, connie was texting you, asking if he could come pick you up. he didn't tell you where yall were going but you got dressed in something warm and went anyway.
"my pretty girl~" connie could almost melt at the sight of you.
"hey connie." you tried to hold back your smile but it was utterly impossible. "you wanna tell me where we're going?" you asked as you buckled in and he started driving.
"no ma'am."
"and why not?"
"it's a surprise~" he sang. you shrugged as you let him continue driving. it was 30 minutes before he pulled up at a small building that looked like some kind of salon. you looked over at him, puzzled.
