Chapter 20

Aching hearts, regrets and a lot of what ifs.

Aella woke up inside the infirmary. The people around starts panicking when they saw her opened her eyes but she remained silent. Her mother is the first person she saw but her heart hoping for another person. It's Kai.

Nurses have been asking her questions for minutes but she don't want to talk. After what happened, she don't have strength to talk and to think. She didn't talk nor react. She just nodded when the nurse asked her about pain.

She can feel her whole-body throbbing. The faces of Lyndsey, Febbie and Barbara entered her mind and she looked at the nurse with widened eyes.

"The girls who fought with me that night, where are they?" With a weak voice and dry throat, Aella asked the nurse who's fixing her bandages. Aella's mother was shocked stood up from her seat and went beside her.

"Aella, do you like some water?" Ellaina, the mother of Aella asked her with her worried eyes. Aella glanced at her mother and nodded and looked at the nurse for response.

"They're on the different rooms and their condition is getting better at the moment." The nurse answered her and left for the other patients.

It made her feeling a little better. She wanted to cry for the girls.

"But Aella, the knights found out that they were part of Richart's group. Anytime by now, they can arrest the girls." Her mother said.

Aella wanted to scold her mother for pretending that she didn't know who is Richart and for mentioning his name like she was used in saying that name. She is now wondering if her real father really died or left her because her mother was a criminal and she had Richart.

"I need to talk to Keiran." She said to her mother and glanced at the opened window. She felt the cold breeze that entered the window.

"He visited you here with Theo when you're still unconscious." Her mother said. She hates them but she needs to talk to Keiran for the girls.

"Can you fetch them mom, for me." She said and glanced back to her mother.

Ellaina smiled at Aella and nodded. "Okay. But you should eat first and then I will find them for you." She said to Aella.

Aella didn't complained and ate the food that her mother is giving her and after that her mother went out to find Keiran. She was left alone in her room. The only thing she can do is to stare at the window beside her and think of Kai.

Is he okay too?, she thought. She's worried of what Richart going to do with Kai.

Aella tried to stand up she's still weak to stand.

After hours of waiting, the closed door opened and her mother entered and on her back is Keiran and Theo.

"I will wait outside." Her mother said and leave the three of them only in the room.

"I'm glad you're okay now." Theo said to her with a smile but she didn't smiled back. She's is feeling furious. She can't smile.

"Why are you even here?" Aella asked Theo with furrowed brows. She feels annoyed. "I'm just visiting my friend." Theo answered her.

"Keiran and I are going to talk and you want to join? Don't you have a job?" She said to Theo with sarcasm.

Theo was about to respond to her but Keiran interrupted. "That's enough." He said and looked at her.

Aella wanted to laugh. She's with the person who didn't even trusted her in the first place. She thought he is her friend. Aella wants to punch the two man and she is really going to punch them if her body is well.

Friend? Theo is her friend? He can't even support her and defend her. They known each other for years and Theo knows that she can't be a traitor.

"The Knights are very sorry for what happened. The grandmaster wants to talk to you after you recovered. I'm happy that you're well and came back now—"

She cut Keiran's speech. "That's is not what I want to talk about." Aella continued. "I want to talk about my friend. The ladies who fought with that night. I don't want them to be arrested."

"They are part of Richart's group." Theo answered.

"They was part. They have changed and rebelled against Richart. Fought the bad guys that night while the Knights are so clueless of what is happening. Then you want to arrest them. Arrest them and I will not going to tell you the details I know." Aella said to them. Threatening them.

It's time for the girls to have their freedom. To live without the fear of being arrested because their face and names are in wanted list.

"I understand." Keiran said and nodded.

"They are also a victim of Richart since they were a child. I want them to be free from any judgement. Lyndsey is working at the Alchemy industry and contributed a lot, Barbara are helping the nuns in the Cathedral and Febbie, I know you know her but she has been a good friend to me. Protected me. This is the only thing I want." Aella said again. 

"Febbie was a spy sent by Richart. Do you know how shocked I am? That the woman I trusted is fooling me for a long time." Keiran said to her and Aella saw how it affected Keiran. His jaw is clenching in anger but her voice is full of sadness and he's hurting.

"Talk to her is you're ready. I will talk to the grandmaster after a week. Use the files I gave you wisely. I went into the den of criminals just to have them. I will go home in Starlight Mountain." Aella said to them.

"Then when are you going back to the Knights?" Her eyes went to Theo who asked her.

"Going back? After what happened? I don't want to go back." Aella answered that made the two shocked at her decision.

"But, Aella—"

Aella raised her hand to stop Theo from complaining. "That's my final decision. I will take the three girls home." She said and Theo and Keiran sighed.

"I respect your decision. I will convey your words to the grandmaster." Keiran said before they said goodbye and left.
