Life On The Surface

As the three made it to the surface, Nicole felt the cool breeze of the night hit her skin as the two androids exited the elevator. "God that took forever." GLaDOS said as Wheatley saw Nicole feeling the air. "Enjoying the night breeze are we?" Wheatley asked making Nicole nod. "I haven't felt this peaceful and calm since I was 5." Nicole said before leading the two AI's to an abandoned cabin in the woods.

When they got inside they saw that the place was overall empty except for some furniture and silverware. "God, this house is literally nothing but dust." GLaDOS said making Nicole smile. "Well at least it has furniture." Nicole said as Wheatley saw that there was little food. "There barely any food in here Nicole!" Wheatley said making Nicole sigh. "I saw a little town nearby. We can stock up tomorrow. For now, let's get some rest." Nicole said going upstairs and feeling a sense of deja vu from the first room she saw.

As she looked around she started to notice that the cabin they found looked oddly like her dad's summer cabin. But before she could say anything she saw an old picture in one of the bedrooms and almost dropped it when she saw what the picture was. "Daddy?" Nicole asked sitting on the couch and staring at the photo. It had Audrey who looked about 7 years old holding Nicole who was a newborn with her parents who looked really happy.

As she looked at the picture she started to tear up as she realized that the cabin she found was her Dad's old vacation home holding the picture up to her chest as she got a flashback to the night that he died. As she sat there GLaDOS came in. "I made dinner with the remaining food." As Nicole went downstairs she saw the meal and realized that it was her favorite dish made by her dad. "Daddy's favorite dish..." Nicole thought as she ate. After dinner Nicole found one of her mom's old nightgowns and after cleaning it she took a shower and put it on.

After that she went downstairs and sat on the couch with the picture in her hand. "Did Daddy guide me here?" Nicole thought looking at the photo. "Daddy... Thank you for watching over me..." Nicole said aloud holding the picture close. "We should get some rest." Wheatley said as the three went to bed. In the middle of the night Nicole had a nightmare about her family and woke up in tears going out back and thinking about her Dad. "I miss you Daddy... I wish you were here with me..." Nicole said before being joined by Wheatley and GLaDOS. "Let me guess, you couldn't sleep?" Nicole asked as GLaDOS sighed. "I was actually thinking about you. I guess this idiot thought about the same thing." GLaDOS said making Nicole sigh.

As the three sat there Nicole decided to tell them about her childhood. "You were wanting to know about my childhood earlier Wheatley..." Nicole said breaking the silence. "Yes. Are you ready to share?" Wheatley asked as GLaDOS looked at her concerned. "Yeah... You deserve to know. After all, you did save my life." Nicole said as she explained everything to the AI's. "Well, my family used to be super happy. But one night I woke up after hearing what sounded like an explosion. I went downstairs to see what was going on and saw three guys in black by my dad who was on the ground bleeding. My mom and big sister Audrey rushed downstairs only to find the men were gone and Mom blamed me for killing my dad." Nicole said in tears.

After a bit of time Nicole continued. "S-so as a way to take her anger out was to beat me till I was numb." Nicole said pissing off GLaDOS. "Why would she do that?!" GLaDOS asked making Nicole tear up. "I-I don't know! S-She said that I killed her husband!" Nicole said crying before being hugged by Wheatley. "W-Well, Mom remarried and I thought my step dad would help me but..." Nicole said crying some more. "That bitch was worse than Mom! He had a bratty son who would constantly get my sorry ass in trouble even when I didn't do anything!" Nicole said crying. "Oh God..." Wheatley said trying to calm Nicole down down holding her close.

As Wheatley was calming Nicole down GLaDOS saw the picture that Nicole was holding and looked at her. "Who's the other girl in this picture?" GLaDOS said calming Nicole down. "My sister." Nicole said with a sad smile. "Whenever Mom or Stepdad would beat me she was there to patch my wombs up like the good big sister she is." Nicole said with a smile before thinking about something. "Hey GLaDOS, how did you know that I was the player?" Nicole asked making GLaDOS smile. "I can see you." GLaDOS said making Nicole shocked. "R-Really?" Nicole asked as Wheatley nodded his head. "Yeah! We see who's controlling Chell. It's kinda an ability we developed after being created." Wheatley said surprising Nicole.

As the three sat there Nicole thought back to the day before. The two AI's seemed more concerned when she booted up the game after the beating. "So that's why you looked so worried when I played the game yesterday!" Nicole said before rubbing her eyes. "I think it's best if we all went to bed." GLaDOS said making Wheatley nod. "I agree. Don't you Nicole?" Wheatley asked making her nod. "Yeah." Nicole said as the three went inside. After getting into bed Nicole fell asleep and stayed asleep the whole night knowing that her meeting GLaDOS and Wheatley was for her own safety.
