(So-yong's POV)
As I open my eyes, I see Ji-yeon sleeping beside me. Last night, he somehow convinced me to stay. Mr. Lee fell asleep in a chair, providing the perfect moment to escape. Just as I tiptoed to the door, Mr. Lee's voice cut through the quiet.
"Where are you going?"
I stopped, irritation bubbling up. "Ji-yeon is out of risk and his fever is down. It's time to go back, right?"
"You can't leave until he wakes up. I spoke with the hospital director; you're in charge of Ji-yeon," he stated firmly.
I mumbled, "How could Grandpa do this to me?" Then said aloud, "Don't worry, the doctors here are very well-qualified. Ji-yeon will like them. Besides, you can take him home today."
"We'll see after he wakes up. Is there anywhere I can get coffee? I can't start my day without it."
"Does this look like a five-star hotel to you?" I muttered.
"Dr. Han, did you say something?"
"Yes, you can find it in the canteen. Oh, I forgot. Mr. Lee is allergic to the hospital canteen. Oww, My bad," I teased him, smiling in mind.
He raised an eyebrow. "Are you mocking me?"
"No, just telling the truth," I replied, intimidated by his look.
"Anyway, let's go," he said, standing up.
"But Ji-yeon..." I protested.
"Don't worry, he won't wake up too early."
As we walked to the canteen, I yawned continuously. I couldn't sleep well last night. Despite being a doctor, I've never managed my sleep well. Sleep is my one and only true love. Mr. Lee bought two cups of black coffee. I am scanning the surrounding. Usually, it's crowded but now this place is so peaceful . Why not? It's only five in the morning.
"Do you want anything else?" he asked.
"No, thanks.'
'Are you sure?'
''Umm... I don't like black coffee, actually," I admitted hesitantly.
"Sometimes, I wonder about your identity. Are you really a doctor?" he asked harshly.
"What do you mean? I'm a well-qualified doctor of this hospital," I retorted, a hint of anger in my voice.
"Then you should know black coffee energizes you and gives more mental clarity than white coffee."
I mumbled, "He's the doctor now, and I'm the patient."
"Why are you always mumbling?"
"Whatever. Give me the coffee. I'll have white coffee with lots of sugar," I said, grabbing the cup and walking away.
"She's really something," he thought.
I returned with my coffee. "Let's go."
"Where?" he asked, confused.
"Somewhere peaceful."
"You know about peace?" he mocked.
"Everything was peaceful in my life until I met you. Follow me."
I took him to the roof of hospital. It's one of my favourite place. I came where whenever I feel frustrating or exhausted. The sun is rising. The warm light of sun is falling on us It's really warm in winter. Mr. Lee is looking like lost in thoughts. Only sipping his coffee. Whatever, I am not also interested to talk with him. I glanced more closely. Indeed, he doesn't look like a father who has a four years old son. He is very fit and I do not completely disagree with Aera and Sunhee that he is handsome. His height is more than six feet. His skin tone is fair white. Has sharp jawline, his hair colour is black, has brown eyes and always wear formal office clothes. In a word,he is perfectionist. He caught my gaze,I shyly looked away.
"You were right. This place is peaceful," he said warmly.
I smiled slightly. We finished our coffee and returned to Ji-yeon's room, just as he awoke.
Look, our prince charming woke up," I said, glancing at Ji-yeon.
He smiled faintly, looking at Mr. Lee and me. Who knows why? After freshening up and having breakfast, I checked his temperature.
"Very good. Your fever is completely down. You can go home now. Give me a high five," I said cheerfully.
But Ji-yeon didn't look happy. He gazed at me sadly. "Mommy, are you going home with us?"
Mr. Lee answered, "No, she can't come with us.She has her own home"
Ji-yeon's eyes welled up with tears, breaking my heart. Mr. Lee's expression softened a bit, but just as he was about to console Ji-yeon, his phone rang, and he stepped outside to take the call.
Ji-yeon continued to cry."Ji-yeon, are you okay?" I asked gently.
He shook his head.
"So, are you angry at mommy?" I asked softly.
He stopped crying but shook his head again. "No."
"Good boy,"I said with a smile. "You know, you can meet me whenever you want. Okay?"
He smiled up a bit. "I don't know your home."I smiled at his intelligence. Writing down my address, I handed it to him. "Happy now?"He nodded happily and gave me a kiss on the cheek.
"So, is Ji-yeon ready now to go home with papa?"
Though he didn't want to, he nodded.
"That's my boy. Now, high five."He gave me a high five just as Mr. Lee returned.
He seemed impressed by Ji-yeon's mood change."Ji-yeon, Uncle Chang came with the car. Let's go home."
Ji-yeon stood up, and Mr. Lee lifted him onto his back. It was so cute; it reminded me of when my father used to carry me like that. I smiled, watching them.
"Goodbye, mommy," Ji-yeon said happily.
"Goodbye, Ji-yeon," I replied with a light smile.
"Goodbye," Mr. Lee said in a cold tone but it sounds sweet, but there was a slight smile on his face. Who knows why?
They left the hospital, and the cabin felt empty. It was my first time taking care of a child for the whole night, and Ji-yeon seemed special to me. I didn't know why, but I enjoy spending time with him.
