Troll

The rest of the month flew by. I baked Hermione a birthday cake on the 19th for her and spent that whole day with Harry and his friends. The twins pulled prank after prank and even allowed me to help plan some out. Every time I had multiple free classes, I seemed to gravitate to the library or the kitchen. My friends and I decided every Wednesday afternoon we'd do our own thing, so we weren't always hanging out together.

It is now Halloween, and the castle is decorated. The twins pulled a lot of funny tricks, but so did a lot of other people. I've not gotten to spend any of today with Harry, Ron, or Hermione. So I decided I'll stop by at dinner and say hi. Everyone feast on the Halloween themed feast, and we tell stories of all the tricks pulled before I say I'm going to go say hi to my brother. My friends tell me to say they say hi before I skip happily over to the Gryffindor table.

'Hi Harry, Ron. My friends say hi,' I say sitting across from Harry. 'Where's Hermione?' I question seeing the empty spot next to Harry. "Parvati Patil said that she wouldn't come out of the girl's bathroom. She said that she'd been in there all afternoon, crying." Neville says next to Ron. I tilt my head as Harry glances at Ron with a disapproving look on his face. Ron, in return, just shrugs, making me stare at him, too.

Suddenly, Professor Quirrell comes running into the Great Hall in panic. "TROLL! IN THE DUNGEON! T-TROOLLL IN THE DUNGEON!" He shouts. Dumbledore rises from his seat in concern. Everyone looks at Quirrell, and then there is utter silence. "Thought you ought to know." He says right before he passes out in fear. The great hall stays silent, but then everyone freaks out, screaming and running.

Harry rushes over to me as Ron and Neville scream very loudly and start running. "SILLLLLEEENNNNCEEEEE!" Dumbledore yells, we all stop and calm down. "Everyone will please not panic! Now, prefects will lead their house back to the dormitories. Teachers will follow me to the dungeons." He orders. I cling to Harry, not wanting to leave as he wraps his arm around me and drags me as he follows his prefect.

"Gryffindors, keep up, please, and stay alert!" The red head prefect says, leading us down a dark corridor. "How could a troll get in?" Harry asks, looking to Ron. "Not on its own. Trolls are really stupid. Probably people playing jokes." He answers. I stop, remembering Hermione was missing from the Great Hall. Harry must get the memo cause he suddenly pulls Ron aside. "What?" Ron says shortly. "Hermione! She doesn't know!" Harry says, making me nod, agreeing.

We separate ourselves from the crowd and then start running down corridors, we run down a hall but stop when we hear a grunting noise coming from a large shadow on the wall. "I think the troll's left the dungeon!" Ron says, scared. I pull us quickly into a doorway. The three of us stare out and see a large, ugly troll as he thunks by into a room.

I point to the sign, "he's going into the girl's bathroom!" Harry says, seeing where I'm pointing. We rush over and hear Hernione scream as we burst in. "Hermione, move!" Harry exclaims. The troll smashes the remaining stalls, making Hermione scream more, "Help! Help!"

The boys start throwing wood pieces at the troll as I think of a better plan. "Hey, pea brain!" Ron shouts, throwing wood. He hits the troll on the head, grabbing his attention. Hermione escapes from the stalls to under a sink, but the troll sees her and then comes over to smash her. It cracks the sink and barely misses Hermione. Harry cringes as I flinch and pull my wand out as Hermione shouts for help more.

Harry also gets out his wand but makes the first move as he runs forward and grabs the troll's club, and is lifted up. "Whoa!" He shouts as he lands on the troll's shoulders and is hurled around back and forth. I try to focus as Harry's wand shoots up the troll's nose. The troll groans in disgust, as does Ron and Hermione.

I beg my voice to work as Hermione encourages me, I point my wand at the troll, "Wingardium Leviosa!" I say flicking my wand how Professor Flitwick taught.

The troll's club is lifted out of one of his hands and hovers above its head. The troll looks at his hand and opens it, then looks up, confused, just as the club comes crashing back down. "Cool," Ron says before I push him towards Hermione. He helps her away as the club hits the troll's head.

It hits hard, and the troll wavers, then drops Harry, who crawls away, and slowly comes crashing down, knocked out. Hermione approaches carefully as I help Harry up. "Is it dead?" Hermione asks as Harry smiles widely at me and answers her. "I don't think so. Just knocked out."

He then carefully grabs his wand, which is covered in mucus. "Ugh! Troll bogies." He says in disgust. Harry wipes his wand on his robes.

Suddenly, McGonagall, Snape, and Quirrell come rushing in. They all gasped at the knocked out troll. "Oh! Oh, my goodness! Explain yourselves, all of you!" Professor McGonagall says, shocked. Ron and Harry start to explain, but Hermione interrupts. "It's my fault, Professor McGonagall." She says, looking at the floor.

We all look at her, "Miss Granger?" McGonagall questions. "I went looking for the troll. I'd read about them and thought I could handle it. But I was wrong. If Harry, Hally, and Ron hadn't come and found me, I'd probably be dead." She says.

"Be that as it may, it was an extremely foolish thing to do. I would've expected more rational behavior on your part and am very disappointed in you, Miss Granger. Five points will be taken from Gryffindor for your serious lack of judgment." She says to Hermione before turning to me and the boys.

"As for you three, I just hope you realize how fortunate you are. Not many first-year students could take on a fully grown mountain troll and live to tell the tale. Five points will be awarded to each of you... for sheer dumb luck." She says, making the boys grin to each other.

Snape and McGonagall leave as Quirrell stays behind, "Perhaps you ought to go. It m-might wake up. Heh." My friends and I rush out and start walking back to their common room. "Good for you to get us out of trouble like that." Harry says to Hermione and I. "Mind you, I mean, we did save her life." Ron adds after, "Mind you, she didn't need saving if you hadn't insulted her." Harry says, making me glare at the red-haired boy.

Hermione looks at Ron, "what are friends for?" He says. They both smile at each other as we carry on through the corridor. Once at their common room, Ron goes off to find his twin brothers, as Harry requested for me. Harry and Hermione then congratulate me on using my voice. I try to again but fail, making me frown and look down sadly. Hermione rubs my arm comfortingly before the twins arrive and safely walk me back to my common room as they tell me jokes, making me giggle.
