Mom wasn't home when I arrived, and seeing as she hadn't texted throughout the day, I'd come to the conclusion that she was still mad at me.
Though my stomach grumbled as I walked upstairs, I decided to have a shower before anything else. I dumped my bag on my bed and released a lazy sigh before peeling off my clothes and stepping into the shower. I adjusted the water to warm and let it spray out a little before stepping under the shower.
The eye tattooed to my chest dangerously stood out, and though I had already grown accustomed to it by now, I still found myself slightly shaken by it sometimes. I traced the patch with my finger tips, while the water danced on my skin.
This tattoo was one proof I had that these mysteries weren't just plotted out by The Seer to frighten me for some reason. It was one truth that propelled me into the reality of this all. And I was done playing games, I was ready to accept every condition that came with my visions. I didn't seem to have much choice, anyways.
As I showered, I replayed everything The Seer had said in my head. I distinctly remember what she had said about the Visionari, and how they were smart enough to draw their powers from the universe. How they formed their community, and welcomed in voyagers with open arms. Voyagers who eventually turned against them, due to the death of their loved ones.
I remembered how the Visionari had then fled from their own village, coming down to Ravenswood since, presumably, it was the only town that felt much like home. But the Vegants weren't satisfied.
Perhaps they came down to Ravenswood to seek greater revenge, perhaps they came believing they could protect the people of Ravenswood from what they thought was harm. But the Visionari had unified to keep their powers and identities a secret.
Suddenly the weight of Abi's words crashed into me, and I found myself thinking aback. She had mentioned the glowing buildings and the weird symbols etched to it. I remembered the date she'd mentioned, 1955. That should have been the first year that the Visionari must have unified their powers. And I hadn't gotten that deep into granny's journal yet. I briefly wondered if The Seer's words would have made more sense if I had completed granny's journal.
After stepping out of the bathroom, I threw on a forest green sweater and a pair of boxer shorts, since I didn't have plans for the rest of the day. I hand dried my hair with a towel and let it lay damp on top my shoulder. After, I hastily fetched granny's box, eager to learn more about my past than I already knew.
I was already flipping through the pages of her journal on my bed, when I heard the sound of the doorbell. That was weird, neither Mom nor Ethan ever used the doorbell. And I never had anyone over asides them.
With a furrowed brow, I climbed down the stairs and into the living room. When at the door, I stood on my tiptoes to make out who was behind the door from the peephole, but from that angle, it was difficult to make out any figure. The doorbell rang again and I almost flinched at the strangeness of the sound.
Slowly, I opened the door just a crack, and craned my neck to see my unexpected visitor. Before I could even get a proper sight, the door was pushed open, slamming me right in the face. I heard a crack from my nose, and the pain immediately seared through my skull. I held back a scream and braced my nose with my hands, just to see who was barging into my house.
"Hey there bestie," Ben wrapped me in a hug with my hands in front of his chest, before pulling out and letting the others in.
"Nice house," Abi squealed before rushing in. Zara obviously didn't regard me before walking in.
My hands still on my probably bleeding nose, I shut the door with a foot and turned back to my friends. It felt weird seeing them without uniforms, even weirder seeing them in my home. Ben had on a plain long sleeve shirt with a dark jeans. I noticed a gold necklace following down his shirt and stopping at his chest, piecing the outfit together.
