Ahnesti sat quietly on the plane, her headphones in and music flowing through her ears as she gazed out the window. The city below appeared like a patchwork of lights and shapes, but her mind was elsewhere. She found herself lost in thought, imagining what life in New York would be like.
She thought about the people, the unfamiliar streets, the situations she'd face—everything that was ahead of her. The thought of reuniting with her brother brought a small sense of excitement, but the idea of things being so different from Chicago unsettled her. The thought of starting over in a city she barely knew made her both eager and anxious.
Her daydreams were interrupted by the pilot's voice over the intercom, announcing that they were about to land. Ahnesti shifted in her seat, mentally preparing herself for the new chapter that awaited her. As the plane touched down with a gentle thud, she gathered her things and stood up, her heart beating a little faster.
Walking off the plane, she followed the crowd of passengers through the terminal. Her carry-on bag swung lightly in her hand as she made her way to baggage claim, eyes scanning the signs until she found it. The familiar sight of her black Hello Kitty suitcase brought a small sense of comfort, a reminder of home—even if home was now a place far away.
