Red disappeared for a long time.

You swore you could've heard him in the next room but when you'd go check, he wasn't there. You wondered how he could disappear in a blink of an eye without so much of a sound. Unwrapping the bandages around your palm, thumb lightly grazing over the healed bite marks. Your palm slightly discoloured around the scabs, showing its tenderness in pink.

The guilt that settled nearly the second Red disappeared made you feel awful. Despite Edge's (rather rough) reassurance that his brother would be fine, Red had made himself scarce.

Mindlessly tracing the bite marks with your thumb, you sighed softly and began to rewrap it, your mind wondering once more. If Red hadn't said anything unjust to Blue, you wouldn't have snapped the way you did. A sense of overwhelming frustration leading your biting words despite your need for peace.

Speaking of Blue, since this morning he hadn't left your side. He sat comfortably on your shoulder as you went to work cleaning around the cabin, replacing sheets, dusting off surfaces, sweeping and mopping the floors then finally, fixing up the kitchen from the fiasco yesterday.

Blue offered to help, picking the small things as you vacuumed — although kept it far from the tiny skeleton in fear of accidentally sucking him into the machine. A shiver crawled your back at the thought, refocusing on Blue and the vacuum with much more focus.

The other bitties were scarce. Busy doing their own thing in the garage. You had offered to help move the bigger things, considering their height and size, but Sans politely declined, ushering you out of the garage with the promise of being careful.

Despite his reassurances, you weren't so sure nor confident in their abilities. If they had any, for all you knew was that Red could disappear. You supposed you shouldn't underestimate them, considering their big help in the squatter's situation not even 72 hours ago.

Yet the underlying issue remained open. Red was angry, and you had no idea how to smooth things over. You knew it wasn't your job to comfort someone who didn't want it, but you felt horrible. You didn't want them to assume that you were playing favourites, especially since they just got here.

The thought made your brows furrow in confusion. The Stretch doll laying perfectly upright on the decorative pillow on the couch, facing the tv because 'he enjoys watching tv!' per Blue's words.

The drills and thunks coming from the garage didn't ease your worries either - so, in the highlight of the moment you offered to go for a walk, and both Edge and Papyrus were welcomed to tag along if they so wished.

Walking down the animal path, the trees loomed over your head as you watched the branches sway and creak to the winds. A soft sigh coming to your as your gaze dropped to the ground, watching as Papyrus jogged forward with his arms pumping each step.

"What do you think Sans is up to?" You paused, lightly shaking your head. "Let me rephrase that, how do you think sans is going to..uh..fix your size?"

Papyrus stopped his mid-jog, causing you to stop in fear of accidentally stepping on him, the thought alone made you shiver.

Edge walked along your feet, his arms crossed and observing the area with suspicion as if another squatter would pop out.

"HE KNOWS A LOT OF THINGS!" Papyrus said, puffing out his chest with pride. "WE HAD A MACHINE IN OUR BASEMENT THAT SANS WOULD TINKER WITH, SOMETIMES WITHOUT MEALS!" A sour look appeared on Papyrus' face before he turned around and continued.

Blue sat perfectly on your hair, his hands tangled within your strands as a rein, nudging you to follow after Papyrus. "OH, I USED TO DO THAT TOO!"

"A WASTE OF TIME!" Edge roared from the ground, kicking thorns away from his path. An angry flush of crimson dusting his skull as a long bone materialized in his palm, using it to slice away the grass and thorn bushes instead. "SANS- RED," He grumbled, "WOULD SPEND HOURS LOOKING AT NOTES AND INSTRUCTIONS TRYING TO TURN ON THAT WRETCHED MACHINERY."

Brows furrowing in worry, you gently picked Blue off your head and placed him onto the ground, watching as Edge advanced further and closer to Papyrus with more ease. Papyrus continuous 'huff huff huff' each step he took on his 'light' jog didn't seem to bother Edge — moreso looked like he was expecting it.

"Riiight..." you trailed off nervously. "Like I know what you guys are saying right now.."

Blue laughed loudly, easily catching up to Papyrus' jog. "NO FRET HUMAN! I AM SURE CLASSIC HAS IT FIGURED OUT."

Despite the reassurance, you felt even more lost on the subject. "Is that what they're trying to do? In the garage, I mean." You quickly added the last part, biting your lip as you picked up your pace to match their speed. Your gaze wandering above and beyond the familiar animal path, the sound of rushing waters filling the air aided your understanding of where you were.

"MAYBE. WE WONT KNOW UNTIL-"

"wait, does that mean Red could be helping Sans? What about you?" You questioned, appearing sheepish when Papyrus lightly shook his head, his arms crossed over his chest as he leaned against a tree. Blue crouching down to closely examine a type of fungi growing on the ground.

"I STOPPED TINKERING WITH THE MACHINE WHEN PAPY WAS A PRE-BONES." Blue explained, poking the jelly-like fungi. His face contorting in disgust before standing up, raising his arms over his head with a deep sigh. "BUT HE WAS ALWAYS INTERESTED IN COMPUTER SCIENCE, CODING I THINK."

"Computer science..." you echoed in thought, "Maybe they need Stretch to wake up to be able to get the...the machine going." Despite the theory that zipped in your mind, you weren't sure if that were a plausible possibility that would take for three driven people with a difference in academic success to configure in something they couldn't do alone.

"What about you two?" You inquired, watching as Edge gripped the bark of a tree and made a steady climb upwards. A complete determination in his sharp sockets with each pull.

"OH ME!" Papyrus cried out, the back of his palm rested on his forehead, once more still laying against the tree opposite to Edge's climbing tree. "TRAINING! ITS NOT EVERYDAY A GREAT MONSTER LIKE ME ENTERS THE ROYAL GUARD!" The red scarf around his neck tittered against the wind, his hand running along his skull as if pushing hair back.

"BAH." Edge scoffed, already at head-level as he leaned back to look below him. "I WAS CAPTAIN OF THE GUARD. NO EASY FEAT FOR A WEAK-WILLED MONSTER."

"Why are you climbing-"

"FIGHTING THE FORMER CAPTAIN WAS ANYTHING BUT EASY, OF COURSE THAT IS EXPECTED." Edge huffed while he continued to climb, looking over his shoulder occasionally before making his trek up the tree. Being extra careful of the sap that oozed out from deeper cracks in the bark.

"YOU WERE CAPTAIN?" Blue gasped, sparkles of stars appears in his socket as he turned around from the flower he was examining. "I WAS SENTRY, FIRST LINE!"

"NYEHEHE! A POSITION I WILL ONE DAY SECURE. CONGRATULATIONS, EDGE!" Papyrus pipped, giving a salute of sorts.

Edge's skull flushed crimson, a grumble coming from him as he stopped his climb, taking once glance over his shoulder before laughing out. "NYAHAHA! HUMAN, IF I WERE MY TRUE SIZE, YOU WOULD BE COWERING AND BEGGING FOR MERCY!"

A small 'o' formed on your lips, understanding why he was climbing as you crammed your neck back. A pit forming within your stomach at the sheer height Edge climbed, standing at what you guessed was a solid 7'0ft.

"Would I?"

"YES!"

"...Maybe."
