( real life . . . )
❛ including chris? ❜

ᵣₑₐₗ ₗᵢfₑ !

For as long as mikayla's been alive, she's never had the best relationship with her parents, as well as the same going for nate. their mom and dad aren't absolutely horrible, but leaving their children alone for months and coming back only for a couple days isn't the best example of being good parents.

they'll leave the country for a business trip, leaving their teenagers some money to last them a while. it mostly does, and nathan or mikayla are expected to text them if they need more. sometimes they'll text them back, asking how they're doing and how school is, but other times they'll just send it to their bank account without a single message.

so the fact that mikayla and nate are sat on the couch opposite their parents is quite unbelievable since they haven't been here since the start of summer break. miks looks at nate, noticing how he looks mad but also disappointed.

"we're here to give you a gift," their mom says to nate, brushing her hands over her pencil skirt. "since you're graduating soon," she forces a smile, taking a wrapped gift box out of her louis vuitton purse.

nathan slowly shakes his head, leaning back into his seat. "i graduate in may..." his words trail off, folding his arms. "it's basically october. so what the actual fuck?" he snaps and their dad immediately sighs at nate's attitude.

"language nathan," he mumbles but nate just clicks his tongue. with the way their parents act towards them, mikayla's slowly starting to understand why nate seems to be so overprotective over the idea of mikayla being in a relationship, especially between her and chris.

"so how long are you guys staying?" mikayla asks her parents and they glance at each other, silence falling over the unhappy family. she rolls her tongue inside of her cheek, realizing that the words about to leave their parents' mouths aren't going to be good in any way, shape, or form.

their mom sharply exhales, pushing her brunette curls behind her hair. "today..." she sighs and mikayla frustratedly rolls her eyes. "we're sorry, we just wanted to drop this off," her tone isn't sincere and apologetic at all.

"of course," mikayla loudly scoffs, harshly rising from her seated position. she hates that her life seems to be going sideways ever since this school year's started, wishing it could've been different somehow. she blames herself, and it hurts her. miks sighs, storming off from the living room and running up the staircase, wanting to escape from this living nightmare.
