A laugh cut through the silence, almost maniacally.
"You can't do anything. You're weak." A young man laughed while pinning the cultivator against a tree. "Just give in to me, I've let that Song Lan bastard live for your sake. And all I get is your resistance?"
He had enough. The person he loved these few years turned out to be...
The cultivator, who was wearing a red-stained blindfold, kicked the young man off him with all of his strength. He felt for his sword, found it, and held it to his own throat.
Xue Yang was taken by surprise as he was suddenly kicked, his eyes widening in shock as he stumbled back.
"What the hell are you doing?!" he exclaimed, his voice suddenly filled with panic. "Are you crazy? Put that sword down, now!"
Xiao Xingchen smiled, more tears of blood flowing down from under his blindfold.
"You don't deserve what you want, Xue Yang." He said and started pressing the sword harder against his throat, drawing blood. "And you said you wanted me."
Xue Yang's expression turned frantic, his eyes wide with shock and panic.
"Stop! Don't do it, you idiot!" he exclaimed, lunging forward to try and grab the sword. "What the hell are you thinking, trying to kill yourself just to spite me?"
However, before he could grab it, Xiao Xingchen slit his own throat.
The boy couldn't believe what he was seeing, his eyes wide with horror and disbelief as he watched blood splatter everywhere. He lunged forward, trying to grab the sword, but it was too late.
"NO!" he screamed, his voice filled with anguish and desperation.
The cultivator fell down. He was dressed in white, which was hard to tell, since his robe was stained with dirt. He felt the life leave his body, but forced himself to stay alive for just a moment longer.
"I... I hate you, Xue Yang... I hate you so much that I love you."
Xue Yang's expression was one of shock and despair, watching as the cultivator collapsed to the ground. He kneeled beside him, his hands trembling as he desperately tried to hold onto him.
"No, no, no..." he whispered, his voice ragged and desperate. "You idiot, why did you do this? You can't die, not like this... not because of me."
Xiao Xingchen coughed. He couldn't breathe anymore. Xue Yang's expression turned even more frantic and distraught.
"Don't talk, don't try to speak," he said, his voice shaking. "It'll only make it worse. Just... just hold on, darling... please, hold on for me..."
The man dressed in white smiled softly at him.
"We'll meet again, Xue Yang. Somewhere better."
Right after the words had left his mouth, he let out one last breath.
Xue Yang reached out to grab his hand, but it was too late. The body in his arms went limp.
"No..." he whispered, his voice hoarse and ragged. "No, no, no... This can't be happening.."
He held the cultivator tightly against him, his body trembling as tears streamed down his face.
