" Sai!" Her mother-in-law called

" vastundanu athaiya." The woman yelled back as she finished dressing her one year old son.

( coming mother-in-law )

" Umm evandi Attagaru nannu pilustunnāru mīru atanni paṭṭukogalara?" She asked her husband who was busy reading the newspaper.

( mother in law is calling for me, can you hold him?)

" Hmm." He replied taking his one year old son in his arms.

She looked at her husband and sighed, her husband Vikram Reddy (32) a renowned businessman in India. She got married to him when she was just 18 and he was 25. Now she was 26 and they had three children together but she was scared of him.

He scared her, her husband was so unpredictable that it scared her.

" Yes ma?"

" Where is Ekansh?" She asked

" He's with Vikram Ji and the other two are in the living room watching TV."

" Did you ask him if you could go with me to the temple?" She asked unsure.

" He said No." Saira told her MIL looking down at the boiling milk knowing if she would ask again he would get very angry.

" Oh, then let it be even I won't go."

" No attaya you go I'll look after the kids. I'll give him breakfast now, can you dress up Veer and Arav for school please?"

" Domt worry you give him his breakfast, did the kids eat?"

" Yes they did and I also packed their school lunch Amma." Saira told her MIL.

After her kids if she was thankful to one person it would have to be her mother-in-law who understood her better than her own mother, her own mother seemed so foreign now. Her own mother had forgotten what her daughter liked to eat or liked to do, it was almost like she was never her daughter but had just lived with her for the first 18 years of her life.

" Ji? Breakfast." She told her husband and kept his breakfast on the table.

" How is Veer and Arav's study going on?" He asked eating his breakfast but his attention now on her making her feel nervous

" G..ood?"

" Is this what you call GOOD?" He asked as he slammed his palms on the table making his children and mother in law coming running towards the dinning room. Little ekansh started to wails as he searched for his mother.

Saira quickly picked him up trying to shush him.

Now she knew why her husband was quiet throughout the morning her had received his son's report card. Arav her second son was a little weak in studies but her tried his level best and Saira was proud of him for doing that.

But how will she make her husband understand that their son had tried his level best.

" ARAV!" Vikram called for his son

" Nanna?" The boy trembled as he faced his father, who looked so so scary.

" Didn't you study?" He asked his voice stern

" I did." The little boy replied

" That's why you got 70%?"

" I..tried nanna ask Amma too." He said now crying silently looking at his mother

" He did evandi. He used to sit with me everyday and study. He improved a lot right? Last time it was 60 but now it's 70 next time it'll be 80." She defended

" I'll see about that. Everyday after school the driver will drop you to my office I'll take your studies now clearly your mother is too soft."

Saira looked at her sons who ever looking down not wanting to disrespect their father.

" Okay nanna." Her eldest spoke not wanting to anger their father more.

" And veer good job for scoring the highest in your class I hope you keep it up."

" I will nanna."

After Vikram was done with his breakfast his beckoned his wife to follow her to their room.

" What have I told you about hiding things from me?"

" I'm sorry Arav was scared, he thought you would hit him."

" Have I ever raised my hand on you three ever?" His voiced laced with anger as he glared at her.

" No but-."

" DO NOT HIDE THINGS FROM ME." He yelled making her flinch

" I'm sorry I was going to inform you tonight, I swear." She cried

" God dammit stop fucking crying!"

" Why don't you accept your fucking mistake so we move on!"

" I'm sorry I should have told you." She hiccuped wiping off her tears.

" Pack some clothes for the boys and send their snacks to my office I'll teach them after school for now."

" Ji I'll do that." She said and quickly rushed in to pack her sons clothes

In her mind her husband wasn't bad as she never saw him hitting her as her father hit her mother he just had anger issues that was okay right?

But sometimes she wished for a partner who would be her best friend and not someone who would dictate her every move, but she knew the sad reality was and she had to live with it for the rest of her life.

What was her identity? The Great Vikram Reddy's Wife or the Reddy family's daughter-in-law? Was that her identity? Nothing more

She was just a

House wife
She was
His wife,
His obsession

I was tired of reading books where the poor FL lets the ML Get away with everything just because he's rich handsome.

That's not how it should go, let's see how Saira finds her identity and how Vikram changes for his wife or he looses her.

Don't put up with abuse be it in reality or fiction.
SPEAK UP.
