It was a very cold night. Mikah was buried under the blankets on her bed as a smile was plastered on her face as the warmth consumed through her body. As her eyes were closed enjoying the warmth it didn't take long for sleep to take over her. Her eyes shot open to see a forest coated with snow. No clear path, no clear direction of how to get out. Slowly beginning to stand up, she decided to just go in a direction and hope for the best. There is no point standing and waiting for something to happen.
The walk was long. The sounds of her footsteps crunching in the snow made her walk less eerie. The forest was full of endless tall maple trees. Navy blue sky causing everything to become colder and more agonisingly quiet. No birds chirping. No friendly faces to be seen for miles.
While looking up at the night sky there was clouds of smoke. The thought of this coming from a chimney was appealing thinking that maybe there could be a house or small cottage. This making her follow the smoke. After a while of following the smoke, she came to a clearing. There was a small oak cottage on the edge of a cliff overseeing an endless dark abyss with no scenery below. This cottage was odd. Oddly tall chimney with smoke pouring from the top. The whole cottage was so small that it looked as if it was only one room.
Mikah approached the cottage but when she was a couple feet away from the front door, a sharp pain took over her head. The pain was so sharp that she was gripping her head, hunched over in pain screaming. A warm thick liquid began pouring from her nose. Mikah brought her hand to her mouth to wipe away this strangely thick liquid. Staring at her hand, blood coated it. Blood kept pouring more and more from her nose soaking her mouth and clothes she was wearing. She began screaming more and more as blood began dripping and pouring into the snow. The pain became so intense that it felt like her head was going to explode. Mikah didn't know how long this had been going on for and ended up bolting up awake in bed. Her hands instantly felt her chest. The same pain from her dream was shooting through her head. Why? She shouldn't be feeling this pain in real life. She expected to see blood all over her chest but there was no blood at all. All of this began to terrify her.
Mikah began to become terrified of sleeping, spending hours at night forcing her eyes to stay awake. Falling asleep became a fear. Sleep was supposed to be peaceful and refreshing but it no longer was peaceful. She no longer felt refreshed.
Whenever she awoke, it felt like she never slept. It became a task every day to force herself to stay awake.
