Eastside University Pool
Ava stepped out from the changing rooms toward the main pool. The Eastside swimming squad were already milling around.
Clapping her hands for attention, "Lily. Elisha. Sophie. Elana. Start off with 20 laps each to warm up"
One after the other, they stood on the diving blocks and proceeded to dive in. The men's squad, who had yet to leave, watched keenly. With one or two giving a bit of a whistle.
"If you're done, you can leave," scolded Ava. Pigs she thought to herself. Turning back to the pool, she saw Elana waving to the boys. "40 laps for you Elana"
"Owww...ok," Elana begrudgingly acknowledged, but continuing to smile and wink at the departing boys. "Want to make it 50?" Ava quizzed. She quickly ducked her head under the water. The other girls were grinning and laughing.
Ava is known for her strong-willed and focused nature. Despite her competitive edge, she is compassionate and loyal to her friends and family. The Eastside team have always appreciated her ever since she became the squad leader.
"The first meet of the year is coming up next weekend, and we need to be prepared. While I'm confident we can win, we always need to remember that Westlake has a strong team again this year" Ava urged.
"After the laps, head to the weights room for strength training. Except for you Elana. Join us when you finish," Ava said with a sly smile on her face. Elana scowled, "Petty."
Feeling fresh from her post training shower Ava walked out from the training centre. Her phone vibrated, the caller ID showing Jake. "Hey," she answered.
"Where are you?" enquired Jake. "Just left the pools," Ava replied. "OK, I'll meet you at the front gates."
Jake Lawson. Ava's boyfriend of just over one year. Classically handsome and full of self confidence, most of the women on Campus had attempted to pursue him until he finished the previous year. He was now working in finance.
Ava wasn't entirely sure why she had started dating Jake. He had actively pursued her for several months, when she eventually gave in and agreed to a date. It just seemed like the right thing to do?
Ava saw Jake leaning against his black sports car and waved. "Hey babe," he said as he leaned in to kiss her. Without any real thought, Ava turned her head so the kiss landed on her cheek.
Opening the car door, "We still going to Flannigan's tonight?" said Jake, whose eyes were now tracking a blonde in tight jeans walking past.
"Sure." Ava said as she lowered herself into the car.
Maya, who was on her way to the library, stopped and stared at the sportswear clad women who had just got into the car. "Who the fuck is that hottie?" she asked one of her friends. "Ava Morgan. Captain of the swimming team," was the response.
Biting the end of her finger, Maya lustfully watched the car drive away.
Westlake University Pool
Bursting through the doors of the swimming facility, Lena stopped and pantingly said, "Sorry I'm late Coach. It was Maya's fault." She then gave the Coach a sheepish look.
"60 laps. And don't even try and bullshit me Brooks" the Coach yelled.
Already one and a half hours late, Lena didn't bother to argue. Quickly changing into her swimming gear and diving straight in.
The remainder of the Westlake squad, who were just finishing up, looked at their Captain. Shaking their heads and laughing.
Lena has always been confident, charismatic, and unapologetically herself. She is known for her leadership skills and her ability to inspire and motivate those around her. But she could also be a little unreliable at times.
Three hours later Lena finished up, showered, and headed to the cafeteria. Her rumbling stomach reminding that she woke up late this morning.
After loading up a tray full of food, Lena sat down to eat her meal. The phone on the table lit up with a text message.
Flannigan's tonight?
No!
The phone then rang. Of course it was Maya.
"Come on loser! Your pussy's going to get all vinegary the rate your going..."
"Ewww, gross Maya!"
"I'll have you home early. I promise," Maya said, crossing her fingers behind her back. Even thought Lena couldn't see.
Knowing she wasn't going to give up, Lena submitted. "Fine. And don't cross your fingers when you promise."
"What? How'd you.... I'll pick you up around 8. Make sure you dress up all slutty. I wanna see the 'girls' all out," Maya joked and hung up the phone.
Lena snorted some of the rice she was eating out of her nose. Remembering back to when they first dated, Maya had always been wild and fun. Crude. But fun.
Lena smiled.
