The gentle breeze, reminiscent of a wolf's howl, once again whispered through the decaying, termite-eaten window gaps. I drifted, gazing at the twilight outside, but all that met my eyes were untamed plants and shrubs.
"Argh...," I sighed, expressing both disappointment and exhaustion. I was exhausted from my inability to rest and disheartened by my confinement in this cursed house with nothing to do.
The November wind, marking the onset of winter, continued to toy with the long-tilted window leaves, producing repeated fluttering sounds.
I muttered, floating through the long-uninhabited living room, ignoring the dingy brown couch nibbled by rodents and the dusty, long-unused fireplace.
Silverleaf Manor. A two-story building with dozens of rooms. My birthplace and.... the place I died.
I penetrated the yellowish and dimly painted walls and drifted along the dark corridor. A black pajama draped my slender body, the same attire I had worn just before my death.
Lord Lucius Sterling.
I remembered those days. Servants were busy tidying the house. Gardeners were making the yard beautiful. They always bowed with respect when I passed by. Beautiful times.... until she arrived.
My body stopped in front of the closed bedroom. I attempted to touch the door's surface, trying to enter the room where I met my end, where my lifeless body still lay on the bed.
A gentle push sent me flying backward. It wasn't painful, more like a jolt. The only sensation I could feel so far.
I floated once more through yet another unending room. Spiderwebs filled every corner. Thick dust covered the cupboards, books, and the decaying desk.
My gaze stopped at a piece of paper, almost devoured by termites. A few words were still legible.
Wait for me, I will return...
I groaned, uttering a sound resembling a whisper of the wind.
Wait for me...
Those words bound me, rendering me incapable of leaving this place.
Wait for me...
I flew, attempting to crash into the walls, hoping to escape this accursed house. But a force pushed my transparent body back inside.
Wait for me...
I screamed in anger, turned, and attempted to break something. Nothing happened. I couldn't do anything.
Wait for me...
I quickly floated through the room's walls, searching for that place, the only room that made me feel something, reminding me that I was once alive.
I slammed myself as hard as I could into that room, a faint shock coursing through my body before it threw me back. But this time, I didn't give up.
I tried again and again, with each shock. Yet, I only howled and moved quickly, slamming this useless body.
Wait for me...
I screamed, and the final thrust turned everything white. My body writhed, and I groaned.
A strange sensation made me scream. My limbs moved wildly, and my eye sockets without eyeballs seemed to widen.
The roar of the wind grew louder before my body suddenly threw me onto the floor.
I coughed when I smelled the dust. I attempted to get up, but my body felt heavy.
I bent down and found something different. My arms and legs stuck to the floor.
